Were booked for 7 nights in Feb and have Cat 5B (cabin 8058 midship) looks like they now have a 5E GTY available so a $250 savings, is it worth it? I know they can move you higher but I feel like it will be almost booked for this sailing with presidents weekend.

If you are pretty much set on your room location, I would not move. We booked a 5E specifically for the location, and when a 5E GTY came open for less money, we opted not to change reservations. We didn't want to take the chance of losing the location and being "upgraded" to a room we did not want. However, if you don't mind the 5E locations or any upgrade locations, go for it!

I would book 5E gty to get an extended verandah!

But there is no guarantee they will get that. That is the least of what they get. They could be bumped into a higher 5 letter category (even the stateroom they would give up - the ultimate irony) or a Category 4.

More than one person on here has come back upset that they were upgraded from a 5E GTY, so I think the odds of actually getting a 5E in this way are actually pretty slim.

I did not know that.

Yeah. A GTY means that is the lowest category you will get. In some cases - and anecdotally it seems higher with 5E GTYs - you will be upgraded into a higher category.

I booked a 5e gty hoping to get the extended aft veranda. But if we don't get it I know my family will get a higher priced room at the cost of a 5e . Win! Win!

Good point and good way to look at it. :) There are some who book the 5E GTY and don't look at the higher priced cabin as being a good thing because they wanted that verandah.

Though just as a note for the OP, look at what you paid for the 5B you have vs. the 5E GTY. If the 5E GTY is more than what you're paying now, I absolutely wouldn't do it because there is the possibility that you could get assigned the exact cabin you've booked already - and paid more for it.

There have been many complaints about vibrations in the aft cabins of the Fantasy, particularly since its recent dry dock. Unless you don't mind vibrations, I recommend not switching to an aft cabin.

If you are a couple traveling together the 5e can be a good gamble. It is quite likely that you will be put in one of the handicap rooms, which does not have a split shower nor a bed curtain between the bed and couch (which share the same area). A 5e GTY is not the same as a VGT room. I think if you picked a 5e GTY your chances of keeping a 5e are high

If you look at the GTY Assigned thread, you will see a lot of people who booked 5E GTY who did NOT get 5E cabins.

We LOVE the 5Es! We have been 5E GTY, party of two, and gotten it three times. As long as you get a 5E GTY (and you want one) you will likely be fine. It you just get a GTY for a verandah you will probably not have to worry about getting the 5Es. They are really something that people love or hate and are usually booked well in advance.

There is a lot of walking involved which we enjoy to work off all the food. You ARE right below Cabanas though. Quick to get to those snacks and drinks. Just sayin'. :D

I haven't followed it recently to see what the trends were. Thanks.

It just seems like most of the ones I remember where the GTY was 5E they got assigned something else and were not happy about it. Of course not everyone posts there, so that may not be accurate.
