OK, folks, this is an important discussion topic...
As has been discussed in previous posts, another site offers a group of 200 folks (on our cruise) involved in fish extender gift exchange...I've been lurking on the other site and know that many people are enjoying the trivia games and the interactions... - so I think we need to decide whether using the DIS boards to maintain FE lists is futile...by August/September will we still have two active FE lists on the DIS boards? Am I/we clinging to an outdated method to connect people? I'd appreciate some feedback to know how others feel about the sustainability of this two-pronged approach...please respond...thanks!

Very valid question.....I think that getting to know people by their real names and becoming friends with them (by learning about their lives, opinions, life events, family members etc.) prior to our cruise is a great idea!
I am very new to the dis boards and it seems like I can't get to know people on that level here. Even the "code names" are difficult to keep straight.
The group with trivia etc etc is a wonderful group (as is this one) and maybe we should all be together....
I am still here on the dis boards just so I can get to know everyone that will be on our ship.
Therefore I believe that all of us being one large cohesive group would be the best choice.
Whatever the decision it is just great to connect with those that are on the same countdown and so excited about the same thing!

Thanks so much for your thoughts...my daughter is the person who asked why we just don't merge into FB although I wondered what would happen for the folks that don't have a FB account...gotta say, this is weird considering during my 2006 Magic cruise NO one would share last names, children's names (no FE exchange) or room numbers

I do love the idea of getting to know people on a more personal level to help in having a better idea of FE gifts that they would like/enjoy. With that being said, I keep my Facebook account for family and close friends only so to open it up to so many people that I do not know would be a deterrent for me. There are those that may not have discovered the DIS board that may not know to look on Facebook and miss an opportunity, unless you would actively maintain both the DIS and Facebook page. Just another view.
What about exchanging emails of those that would be in the designated FE group.? That would allow for more communication within that group as well?

Thanks, KelJim...I am surprised more folks haven't commented...the size of the FB group is a deterrent to me...it's huge [203 facebook users - so many more individuals], in my opinion
