Hi

We got Fantasmic FP+ for our trip next week but now I'm wondering if they're worth it because you tie up that FP for the whole day! Who has been recently with or without a FP+ and realistically what is the difference in wait times etc? Thank you

Cancel it and pick something else. You should easily be able to grab Fantasmic as a fourth FP during the day. For the show however I'd definitely recommend having a FP. Cuts down on how long you have to wait in line to get in. With FP you don't have to wait long and you'll get in the arena a little ahead of standby so you'll have free range of seats.

When we do F! FP we normally wait in the standby line for about 15-20 min, then head in. I still recommend with the FP though to show up about 45 min-1 hour ahead of showtime. The FP doesn't make it to where you can show up 5 min before the show, it just allows you to not have to wait a long time to get into the arena

Yup.

What a FP+ for F! offers is more CHOICE in seating.

If you DO get a F! FP+, you can choose to sit in either the FP section (virtually the entire left half of the theater)
or the Standby section (virtually the entire right half of the theater.)
So, whatever section has the better seating at the time you arrive, you can go there.

Without a FP, you can only choose a seat in the Standby section.
There is a very good chance that you can get a FP+ for F! as a 4th or 5th FP of the day because they issue SO MANY of them (enough to cover nearly the entire left half of the seating.)
On many nights, it is possible that you can gat a FP+ for F! as you are walking to the theater.

As to when to arrive at the theater, I'd get to there 45-60 minutes before the show-time.
Even with a FP or Dining Pkg. reservation, don't wait too late.
On busy nights, the CMs can stop holding the reserved sections within 20-30 minutes before show-time, and turn over any available seats to waiting walk-in guests.

There is sometimes a "pre-show" (such as it is) that can help pass the last 30 minutes before show time.

Cyan= Standby (walk-in) seating
Red= Dining Package Reserved
Blue= FP+ Reserved
Purple= Can be either FP+ or Dining Plan Reserved, depending on needs.

(Second or Third F! performance of the evening)
Cyan= Standby (walk-in) seating
Red, Purple, Blue= FP+ Reserved
(Although much of the outer Blue will likely be used for Standby.)

Waste of a FP in my opinion. We did it once and will never do it again.

When did you do it?

FP+ for Fantasmic! has significantly changed over the course of time it has been available.
And, if you don't get the FP+ until late in the day, after you have used other FP during the day, you haven't "wasted" the FP.

We tried it during Thanksgiving week. But, I will agree with you Robo, that was before you could get a 4th FP. So, you are right, if you can get it after using all your other FPs, then it would be worth it. It probably would be better for me to say, it's a waste of one of your first 3 FPs.

I will say though, I still don't know that we would need it. We always go to the 2nd show and walk right in about 15 minutes before the show with no problem finding a seat.

AND, if this new test goes to standard practice, we just might never see it again. I'm not thrilled about waiting in line with 7000 other people at a FP kiosk to get an assigned seat I don't want to sit in.......but that's for a whole other discussion!

Agreed.

Are there two performances on the night you'll be attending?

If so, you may want to consider the "hassle free" 2nd show. Just show up, sit down and watch.

We had no problem seeing it in early June (crowd calendar 8) without a fastpass. We were there about 45 minutes early and seats were good. Time went by pretty quickly. We brought our food in and ate while we waited.

I was happy doing the dining package that gave us the reserved seating. We wanted to do a TS meal that day anyways, and it so happened that timing wise it was a great choice to do lunch at MM with the package, and know that we had the reserved seating without using a fp+ for it.

I'd like to get a FP+ for F! to avoid the sensation of being herded like cattle that my family doesn't like about the show. Will a FP help with that? How late in the day could get it as a 4th (we will be there the week before Christmas)?

1. Not if you don't arrive early.
Even with a FP+ I'd get to the theater at least an hour before show-time the week before Christmas.

2. That week will see crowds building. I'd GUESS about 5:00PM, or so, would be OK.
