Fantasmic vs Wishes at California Grill

I'm all about convenience- since you will be in HS I would stay and do HBD and fantasmic! We enjoyed the food there and think fantasmic is worth seeing at least once every few trips.

You will already see wishes the night before. CG is great and fireworks from there is an awesome experience but I don't know if I want to deal with leaving DHS and getting to CG then going back to your resort. Assuming you aren't staying at Contemporary that is.

How would you get from DHS to CR in 20 minutes? IMO that would be impossible, doubly so if it means leaving the park right after Fantasmic let's out.

Since you will have seen Wishes from the park the night before, I'd skip CR. HBD serves very good food, and we've always had great service. It would make sense to do the F dining package and have your dinner there before the show.

If you've never seen Fantasmic and you're seeing Wishes the night before, I'd knock out two things and eat in HS and watch Fantasmic.

It's not that Cali Grill isn't good, but I would take the opportunity to see Fantasmic!

Cali Grill is good enough. It rides a bit on the park/fireworks view. If it were w restaurant without windows, demand would be much lower. I call it like a character meal for grown ups - you aren't paying just for food, but for experience. At CG, it's the viewpoint, rather than a furry, that makes up the experience.

It's such a personal thing. I've seen both and given the difficulty and specialty of Cali Grill and Wishes......... that would be "my" first choice. The setting high above the Magic Kingdom is so cool! The food, IMHO just outstanding.

But then again................that's my opinion :)

No doubt in my mind, I'd do California Grill and Wishes. Fantasmic is a good-enough show, but IMO nothing beats the atmosphere of CG, taking a glass of wine out onto the deck to watch Wishes, then having an amazing meal after the show. We love CG, and find Wishes to be a completely different experience when watched from a distance, on top of the Contemporary. While the food at HBD is fine, we still feel like we are paying a premium to eat supper in a theme park and then watch a show that shouldn't need an expensive reservation. Besides, aren't those Fantasmic dinner package seatings pretty early? That would cut into our park time, which would make the whole day at HS relatively short.

You should be able to get back to AKL by taking the monorail back to MK and then the bus to AKL. Even if the monorail isn't running, there will be buses available from the Contemporary to MK and then to AKL, or the Contemporary will put you in a cab to either MK or AKL. They are pretty good about making the appropriate transportation available, after hours, at no extra cost. (BTDT at midnight!!)
