Fantasmic or A Galactic Spectacular?

The night we'll be at HS has Fantasmic at 8:30 and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular at 9:00. Am I correct in assuming it's not possible to see both on the same night given those times? Which is more highly recommended?

I had originally signed up for Fantasmic dinner at HBD and when the SW party released I cancelled Fantasmic. We are still doing dinner at 3:30 that day so we can enjoy the party.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and was told that the WDW Fantasmic is not as good as DL’s version. I’ve seen DL’s Fantasmic several times, so we’re opting for SW and doing the dessert party.

I personally dislike the Star Wars firework show because there is barely any fireworks. Shouldn’t even be called a firework show. There truly is nothing spectacular about it. It’s basically just scenes from the movies. I think it needs a major overhaul or just go back to the previous firework show they had two years ago. Now THAT was incredible.

I’d skip the Star Wars

There is not one wow moment during it.

Guess it’s just my opinion

My DD14 and I did the Star Wars Spectacular Dessert Party on 7/31. She is unfortunately not a Star Wars geek like her mother. We both so enjoyed the experience and the expense was worth it even without an AP discount. She still talks it up to everyone and is asking to do it again in Jan when we go back.

If you haven't seen either, then Fantasmic is the better 'show'.
But the Star Wars fireworks are awesome if you are a fan.

You can catch the second half of Star Wars after leaving Fantasmic, but not from an optimal spot...you'll be way back and see the center part of the projections, but probably not the side ones.

It's like asking which is your favorite child. The shows should not be compared to each other. They both have strengths and weaknesses. You won't go wrong with either one. If you're a big SW fan, SWaGS is a must do. If you're more into the traditional Disney entertainment stuff, go with Fantasmic.

I think Fantasmic is the much better show. Much more going on at Fantasmic . More lasers, fireworks, more special effects and characters in Fantasmic.
Star Wars is projections on buildings with music, a few fireworks and some laser effects. It ws fun to watch, but not an absolute must do again for us.

We haven't seen Star Wars. It wasn't being shown when we were there in November but I will say that Fantasmic was the only thing we did all week that left us both thinking--could we have our time back, please? We did five night time spectacles and F! was the only one we did not enjoy. Accordingly, I vote Star Wars.

Is it just me or are there less fireworks than when they first opened the show? Or is that what you're talking about?

The fireworks before the galactic spectacular (the ones they did for the star wars weekends) were the best fireworks I've seen at Disney world bar none. Probably can't afford to be doing that all year round lol

I never went to any SW weekends, but Symphony in the Stars was one of the greatest fireworks shows I've seen. Not sure if that's the same one. I was sad when they changed it. But, I love, love, love the new show as well.

I think SWAGS faaaaar better than Fantasmic and would choose it every single time (and I love Fantasmic as well). But if you have no interest in Star Wars, then I could see how someone wouldn't like it. But even my SW-despising mother thought the show was amazing.

It's up to personal preference and what your family likes. We are Star Wars people so we like SWAGS much, much better. And even better with the dessert party.

Fantasmic feels old and tired these past few years. The first time I saw it, I did like it. But with the newer technology in the nighttime shows, it is painfully obvious how dated Fantasmic is. IMO.

Yes! Symphony in the Stars. I still remember turning to the strangers standing behind me afterwards and saying "THOSE WERE THE BEST FIREWORKS IVE EVER SEEN" and they wholeheartedly agreed.

Symphony in the Stars had wayyy more fireworks than a Galactic Spectacular and probably the best fireworks ever

Both are very good though

Symphony of the stars was the most incredible firework display I’ve ever seen.
It's certainly up there. Even though it was short lived, I was able to have watched it many, many of times. I would often turn around and face the crowd just to watch the expressions on their faces during the finale, especially the kids.

I am a fireworks afficiando (at least I like to think so), and there were some in SitS that I saw and said, "...they can make fireworks do that??"

ETA: This is getting off topic, but the EPCOT Xmas additional fireworks ending is probably the 2nd best thing that I've ever seen as far as mass explosions. I went 5 times last December to feel the sounds of popping go right through my chest, lol

The change in firework show from SitS to Galactic spectacular had nothing to do with budget and more about the construction of tsland and Galaxy's edge. They had to move the fireworks launch site from backstage areas to completely out of the park.
Because of the size of the fireworks used for SitS the amount of fallout would require closing portions of both Osceola parkway and world drive before clearing the area and that was just not feasible.
So they change the show from a fireworks show to a spectacular.
Recently they have had to cut the bigger fireworks again because of construction of Galaxy's edge and I'm assuming the sw hotel behind it, so the show is not focused on lasers, fire and light effects with smaller fireworks in the mix
As to which is better it is really a matter of preference

I am not a Star Wars fan at all so I don't really like the SW show and would choose Fantasmic. My husband really likes Star Wars and would choose the SW show, so it totally depends on your audience. Also agree that WDW's Fantasmic is not nearly as good as DLs, so if you are used to that you may be more interested in skipping Fantasmic at WDW.
