Only you know your kids:
Are they scared of fireworks or loud noises? - Fantasmic has both.
Are they scared of "scary" subject matter? - the good guys do win, but that dragon is scary.
Are they scared of the dark? - Fantasmic has moments when all the lights are off.
Do they get more scared and tired at night, Fantasmic starts fairly late, and for our daughter, late means "more sensative." It also means - even without the scary at night, a more difficult next day.
Are your kids the type who can leave and shake it off - or by the time you leave is it "too late" and you'll be dealing with nightmares?
We've done it twice, once when our daughter was four and our son five and again two years later. We won't make time for it on subsequent trips. Once was charming and worthwhile, the second time we both agreed "been there, done that, don't need to do it again." The kids were fine both times, though my daughter had "tired and cranky" issues - but that was more to do with the late night than the subject matter.
The trip before (at 2 and 3) we didn't do Fantasmic, didn't do Illuminations, and watched the MK fireworks from the Contemporary dock.
