Fantasmic Dinner Package Changes

Do they offer a wide variety of entrees at the Brown Derby with the dinner deal?? (our first trip:) )

Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure if they had selected entrees you'd have to pick from or not.

Just wanted to say that we did the dinner package and ate at Hollywood and Vine last week. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food served at the buffet. We were expecting pretty bland offerings, but most of the dishes had a little twist to them, right down to 3 different kinds of butter (plain, cranberry and bleu cheese-bacon) offered with the breads. Our family went hard all day with only a snack, so we chowed down and feel that we got our money's worth, from both both a quality and volume perspective. ;)

Oh, and Fantasmic was great. We ended up getting there in plenty of time to get a seat (about 40 minutes early), so the seating that came as part of the package wasn't necessary. But it was nice to know it was there if we needed it.

At present, all Fantasmic! Dinner packages for November 1, 2004 have been sold out at all three rerstaurants that offer FDP.

However, I was able to get a 4:30 PS at Mama Melrose on October 31. At present, this is the latest possible time. I've read that later times may open up within 30 days of the show. There seemed to be plenty of open FDP packages for all three restaurants for October 31.

At present, they are not offering the FDP at the 50's Prime Time Cafe.

Mama Melrose was $28.99/adult, $9.99/child. They will charge your credit card $10/pp if you don't show up. There is no charge to change (or cancel) your reservation before 48 hrs prior to your PS. If you change the reservation within 48 hours there is a $10 fee.

We did this package last year. Its a lot of food, but its very good food. Well worth the price, got lots of "extras" (liberal substitutions allowed, extra cheese side-dishes, free champagne toast for our anniversary), also I hate lines - got good seats at Fantasmic! even though we found seats 20 minutes before the show. Another advantage - you get out of the park quicker after the show is over (no waiting for trams). Waiter was outstanding - explained everything very clearly. Only disadvantage - all the food may make you somewhat tired - later reservations are better. Also was initially seated near the entrance, but was reseated promptly after asking.

Oct 30th is the only day we can manage fantasmic. Given this date and the fact that it is ee and a Sat, I guess we should try for pkg. I have a few ?

1. I have seen fantasmic and want my ds and her family to see it but I also want for them to have as much time in park. Can I wait in line and they join me once we are seated or in line? I can't remember if this woud work. We never went in Oct. Sept and Jan, and early dec. very light crowds never had to wait until 30 min before.

2. If we do get a pkg. We also have ps's for SCI at 12:20 for lunch. I guess that will be out considering pkg times are early.

We've never had to wait in line since we always take the package, so I can't help you there. The lines, however, shouldn't be too bad the end of October.

However, as far as the times, call and make the early rezzies, then with 30 days to go, continue to call until you get a later time. By all means keep the rezzies at Sci-Fi. You should end up getting later rezzies around 6:00 or 6:30.

Enjoy the magic!

Hi...

I've decided to book the FDP for my family (DH, me, and DS age 2) for early December. From what I've read, I'm thinking the restaurant I should choose is the H&V. Is that the restaurant that would be best for a 2 yr old? I would love to book the BD, but am afraid the menu won't have options for my DS.

I'd appreciate any opinions/guidance here since we've never done the FDP before.

:D

Hugs,
Margo

I just booked FDP for the end of Nov at H&V. My two DS's are 8 and 5 and while I think the buffet will be great for them, I think it will be even better for my "atkins DH." He can pick the items that are better suited for his diet. I also think a buffet is a great way to feed the kiddos -- they can eat the things they like and avoid the stuff they don't. I hope I'm right. . .:p

I really think both of you will enjoy H&V. First, since it is a buffet, there is no waiting around for the food. That is especially important for tired kids (adults too!). Beverage orders are taken, and you're free to start browsing for food. There are plenty of selections for Atkins devotees and little tykes. The atmosphere also encourages noise and freedom of movement. We always have a good time there even though our youngest is now 21. We enjoy seeing families having fun, not having to worry about a stuffy atmosphere.
The food is good, although not nearly as good as BD, but like you pointed out, you have the great option of choosing what you want and what you don't want.
For an added treat, if you've never been there, walk over to the 50's Prime Time restaurant (it has shared bathrooms with H&V) and look around. If you are interested, try booking a rezzie for later in the week. It's also a great place for families with little ones.
Have a great time in the World!

Yes, That is correct. I called ahead to reserve my seats for the Cirque du Soleil show over a month ago and I wanted to reserve PS at some of the restaurants. The tickets for the Cirque du Soleil show was fine but they told me that I had to wait till 90 days before we arrive for PS.

Thanks, Rocketralph. I should have make it clear - I was referring only to the Fantasmic dinner packages. I thought it would be like the CP and I could book it early. But the CM said no, 90 days only.

Question:

If we get the dinner package for Mama Melrose's or Brown Derby, would we be able to choose our entrees from off the regular menu, or do they only give you a limited list to choose from? I've read conflicting reports.

Also, do you know if you could have them prepare something special by calling in advance? I know these restaurants can usually do this, but I didn't know if the package might limit things.

Thanks!

DB it was regular menu-appetizer, main course and dessert-drinks were extra.
Not sure about special orders though.

You can get special dietary request if you call 24 hours in advance. My wife is lactose intolerant and all of the desert options at MM were dairy based. We didn't call ahead, but the server said they would have prepared something special if we had. She would have gone to the bakery next to the HBD but they had already closed. They chef was able to come up with something off the cuff that was pretty good but I would recommend calling ahead the day before.

I made PS reservations tonight but I was never asked my credit card number. I did tell them which resort I was staying at so I hope that is enough to confirm it. I did get the confirmation number but am wondering if I should call back and see if they need the card number. Surely they would have asked for it when I called earlier. Anyone have that happen? Please tell me I don't have to call back and sit on hold for 30 more minutes!!!

Stitch's mom: That's really funny that you ask that question because I just made PS for Fantasmic and had the same thing happent to me. The CM and I went through the whole "what date? what time? what restaurant?" thing and then after she gave me my confirmation number she said "Thank you. . . and have a nice day." I asked her if I didn't need to give her my credit card to hold my reservation and she said "Oh, that's RIGHT! I'm glad you remembered that!" So, I gave her my credit card number and "reserved" my PS. If I were you, I'd call and give them your credit card number. . . you wouldn't want to lose your PS. ;) It sounds like some CM's are forgetting about that last step.

Thanks so much! I even had the credit card sitting there in front of me but after the long hold time I was in a rush to get off and just plain old forgot! Have a good time!:p
