I posted this in another area of the Dis not realizing it wasn't here, which I frequent more often. My question was in response to the thread about how they will handle the ending of Fantasmic since the Mark Twain will be out of commission for a while, particularly during our visit:

"I'm reviving this thread because I just thought of this when I saw that the refurb was happening. I'm sad that it's going on during our visit, that's normally one of the things I like to do-cruise around the rivers of America on the paddle wheeler ;(. Also, I love it when all the characters are on the boat at the end of Fantasmic, it's such a grande finale. I was thinking of doing the dessert pkg, but now I'm not sure..would you still do it?"

Well, since I don't know what they'll do instead here's some q's that might help you decide. Is this something you're going to get the chance to do again or is this you only chance for a long time? (If you really want to do it & this is that only chance go for it, if you'll be back next year consider waiting) The show is a lot more than the one swing by of the Mark Twain, do you like the rest of it or just kind of sit through it waiting for the character finale? (You don't want to spend the whole time bummed out that you're favorite part isn't happening.)

We got to do this once and it was so neat. Loved it. But, I love the show in its entirety and missing the steamboat character float would be more of just an "oh bummer" to me- though now that I think about it my favorite part is the pirate ship. Personally, if that wasn't there I wouldn't do it.

I have to say the Mark Twain part at the end of F! is my favorite. To me that is over the top Disney! When I saw it at WDW I was so disappointed! They had a small, lame boat that looked like ply wood slapped together with Steam Boat Willy driving it. And the crowd went wild with excitement. I just felt sorry for all those people.
That said, I've never had the dessert package because I'm never sure if it was worth the price or not. So if I knew there would be no Mark Twain in the show, I probably wouldn't do it then. That's just me. I have no idea what they will do instead. I'm sure someone here must have experience with that.

I just did the dessert package this past week. For the finale, the characters are just dancing on the island. Is that a deal breaker? I dont think so. I also dont think it really has anything to do with getting the dessert package or not.

I would recommend doing it, unless the cost is in any way a burden. I dont worry about money or calories on vacation, so it was a no brainer for me. A guaranteed good seat is worth the $60 alone. But on top of that they give you a huge box full of delicious treats. They will also provide unlimited free beverages as well, so you can enjoy cocoa/soda/water/etc.

So just to clarify, if the money isnt an issue, just do it. It won't transform the experience into something amazing, but just makes the whole thing more nice and relaxing.

I talked it over with my DD and at this point, I don't think we will do it-we may change our mind a little bit later, so we will revisit the question later this month.

As it is now-we are planning to do the Holiday Tour, and that is more up our alley! We also booked 2 character meals, may be cancelling one of them, waiting to see what time the holiday tour is going to be, they won't have that info available until 30 days before our trip.

Thanks for all your opinions! :thumbsup2
