I think this is the last weekend of all passes below signature plus being valid before the blockout. So I’m sure that’s adding to the crowds. I’m going tomorrow with some friends before they get blocked out

Very True. Last day for the flex pass is Friday the 20th, of which I got the brilliant idea to get reservations so I can take the family after work. I'm sure it won't be crowded that day either
We are here this weekend.... it was raining early and I think that and the traffic you’re describing kept many people away at rope drop. We did DCA as well and it was great. I left at 10 to take my daughter to have her ears checked, and the crowds streaming in were INSANE. The lines getting into Disneyland and at security were the longest I’ve seen. I texted my husband and told him to stay at DCA!
We did make it over to Disneyland briefly late afternoon to ride IASW using max pass and then we left. Too crazy. Attempting to make rope drop this morning to try and get our favorites done before the hordes descend later in the day!!!!
I don’t think they make the decision to cancel lightly and they have the disclaimer that there are no refunds. That said, I think they should change the policy to give some sort of refund or other compensation in these cases.
I'm here, as well, and I can totally believe it may have been due to staffing issues. CMs seemed exhausted, there were fewer crowd control CMs than in Aug., and a few rides I did seemed to have less CMs manning them than before. I felt really bad for the ones that were there.

While the fine print does state that there are no refunds (technically, you are paying for a meal, which you ate, presumeably, and the FP was a freebie), Disney often will work with guests to try to come to some sort of solution if guests ask reasonably. People here have posted that they've received rain check FPs for another show and we've experienced that, too.
