Fantasmic - can you sit somewhere or do you have to stand?

Hi there. I was reading some posts on another site about Fantasmic, and someone mentioned not liking it because they aren't that tall and when you have to stand in a crowd you can't see much besides the back of the person in front of you. Which led me to wonder...how is it set up? Is there seating available, on the ground or walls or something? I'll be there with my Mom and my two little daughters and there's no way they will be standing for hours waiting to hold a spot and then watch the show.

Can someone explain the layout to me and perhaps offer a suggestion for a spot to stake out where we could sit on our coats or something and hopefully have a clear view of the show?

Hi - we have Fantasmic info here on the DIS:

The show is on Tom Sawyer's Island & the river, and guests sit or stand on the "mainland" side. If you want to sit, though, you have to get there early so you can stake out a spot. The first few rows sit on the ground, and the people behind stand.

Here's a thread that talks about some seating strategies for the general viewing areas. It also talks about the reserved seating, which is spendy, and about whether reserved seating is worth it. There's also a link to a picture of the dessert box you get with the reserved seating (it's for the Electrical parade dessert box from Cal. Adventure, but the dessert box is the same).

The DIS board explanation is a little dated; it talks about reserved seating still being a buffet, but actually, it's now a box of goodies. If that's not in the budget and you want to stake out a spot to sit on your coat or a blanket, depending on how busy it is while you're there, people start staking out spots as much as 3 hours in advance for the 9 p.m. show. It's a bit more than "a little early".

stand yes sit haa haa too funny I think not too many people trying to worm their way in front of you. Reminds me of going to a concert with genral addmisson.

If you want to sit and enjoy the show buy the seats I have not done this yet but will be doing it on my may trip.

Good point. In my younger days, we would typically stake out a spot around 6-6:30pm or so, and take turns with the kids. When I have guests, I try to stake out a spot for them, or we get the premium seating. However, the premium seating is pretty expensive, and when you're paying for a family, might not have that option, and either HAVE to stake out a spot to sit, be resigned to stand (hard for the little ones), or see the 10:30 show (also hard for the little ones).
