Fantasmic - Age of your kids?

Our children have been to WDW every year of their lives. Our oldest always enjoyed this show. Our youngest was at least a little bit afraid until about age 6. By "a little bit afraid" I mean that he cried a bit and covered his eyes at times, but never asked to leave - and he always knew that if he asked, we would leave. To compare - he was horribly afraid of ITTBAB until age 8 or so - we couldn't get him to sit through a show - he asked to leave (and we did).

This gives me hope! :rotfl2: DS is 9, and we have skipped AK the last 2 years, but we are going this year. He has agreed to try ITTBAB again. Pray for us. :lmao:

Hmm...come to think of it, I took my daughter to Disney on Ice show in December and she did scare away at the bad (octopus?) in Little Mermaid. Then again, she'll be almost a year older by October.
LOL Ursula the sea witch
:offtopic: We are going in Oct too!!!

Question...if we start to watch it and it's too much for them, can we get up and go? Or is that difficult to do? If we go, am thinking of booking it with one of the dinner packages...so not sure if you can escape if needed.

You should be able to get up and go. Disney generally doesn't like to trap scared kids anywhere. lol Its in an ampitheatre and there is a snack area behind it. If they just need to get out to hide from the villain scene, you could always go there until its over. But you should be able to exit the ampitheatre wo a problem.

We did the dinner package bc we went over Thanksgiving and knew we were not going to wait 90+ mins to get decent seats. lol We did Mama Melroses for lunch and it was fabulous. A LOT of food, but it was so good! I don't think we ate the rest of the day!

My youngest HATED F! for many years. She hated the loud booms of fireworks and scary aspects. I would cover her ears and it helped, but not a lot. But the moment she was tall enough she loved ToT and TT. So you have to know your kid. She is a thrill seeker with heights and speed, not lights and noise. She is 7 now and enjoys F! But barely.

You absolutely can escape but be aware as you leave, the kids can still hear and see it. So they scream for a long time, practically all the way to the parking lot.

My nephew, on the other hand, has absolutely LOVED F! since he was born. He is now 6 and it remains his favorite thing to do at Disney.

It really depends on the temperment of the child. My daughter (just turned 8) was OK with it last year. She said it was "a little scary", but liked it. The year before we skipped, and the year before that (age 5) we had to leave about 25 minutes in because she was terrified. FWIW, she likes thrill rides, but does not do well with emotionally stressful themes/movies. Does not like the intense parts of Disney movies (could not sit through Beauty and the Beast, thought Brave was scary, etc).

We saw it our first trip, dd was 5 and a half. She wasn't terrified, but she didn't like it..spent most of the time hiding her head on daddy's shoulder. Saw it this past fall bc mil and fil had never seen it. Dd is now 13 and she gave me that look only a teenager is capable of and said, "No wonder I didn't like this show! It's downright creepy!" :lmao: mil and fil loved it.

I worry that'll be my daughter too...but if it's not too hard to get up and leave, then maybe we give it a try.

The scary ness of it is that it is dark and loud at times kind of like bugs life. They have parts with the villains. There is also bright colors and good disney characters too. I would say you children should be fine if they don't mind loud noise

We went in November. Mine were 2, 4, and 6. My 6 year old scares kind of easily (she didn't like haunted mansion or dinosaur), and the other two kind of follow her lead (if she's scared the other two aren't so keen on it either).

My 2year old sat on my lap and held on tight during loud booms and the fire, but as long as she was with me she was fine. She clapped and laughed at the end. The 4 and 6 year old sat together with their arms around each other. They comforted each other, and they both loved it. Turned out to be one of their favorite things we did while we were there.

You know your kids best, and I suppose every child reacts to these things differently. We sat on the edge of the row, just in case we had to make a quick get away, but everything was fine.
