Ok, if I choose to carry a fannypack instead of a backpack, will people be snickering  The reason I ask, I do not want to carry a ton of stuff, I know I could fill a backpack, but I am trying to downsize. I have read forum after forum and this is my families first trip so I want to be prepared but not weighed down. :goodvibes

I use both. Well a fanny pack and a messenger bag. Some days I know I don't want to go back to the room, so I take the bigger bag. The hubby and kids groan when i put the fanny pack on...(aren't they required to do that?)

I know there are large number who do wear fanny packs. :)

Last trip (which was our first) I took my diaper backpack that hadn't been used in years. I got it from One Step Ahead online and it is the bomb! Tons of storage, but what I liked best was the zipper "pocket" on each side. I used to put a bottle and an icepack in each, now I put bottled water and an ice pack in each. Also great for carrying your own snacks, etc! Guess my answer is backpack......

I used a fanny pack last year. I didn't care that I looked dorky. It was comfortable. This year I carried even less to the parks and used a tiny bagallini wallet bag that could be carried across the body.

I wouldn't worry about anyone snickering. When you're hiking around the parks all day everyone wants to be comfortable.

I would bring both so if you end up wanting more room than the fanny pack you have the backpack with you.

Wear the fanny pack if it's what you feel most comfortable in. First of all, plenty of people wear them. Second, you likely won't know anyone in WDW, so who cares what they think? I really don't think anyone will notice and/or care. Dh wears a fanny pack at WDW, and wouldn't wear it anywhere else. But then, he wears Mickey Mouse shirts every day and a Mickey Mouse hat, too, while we're on vacation! I personally am not comfortable in a fanny pack, so I use a Baggalini.

I use both at different times in the parks. When we hit RD and stay through mid day or all day, I take the backpack because we're more likely to want/need snacks, cameras, autograph books, sunglasses, hand gel, etc... If we go for dinner and the evening, I just take the fanny pack because all I need is the camera and space for tix and FPs. The one thing I'll mention is that I try to remember to snap it off quickly if we're having a picture taken that will show it - they aren't attractive, but they are handy and less bulky than a backpack.

I wear a fannypack. I don't care who is laughing.... I'm NOT toting anything!!:rolleyes1

I'm the only one who will shoot straight with you on here, that yes, people will. It's just about the lamest thing you can wear.

That being said, as other people have noted, if it's going to be more comfortable to you to wear it, who cares that you look like a goof to a bunch of people you'll never see again? I'm a guy, so I wouldn't wear one anyway, but everyone is different.

I, DW, use the fanny pack..keeper of the tickets, most of the cash we carry around, tissues, cell phone, digital camera, bandaids, and hand sanitizer.

DH wears the 'backpack' - nylon Nike drawstring type.. keeper of our 4 WDW rain poncho's, DH & DW water bottles and he keeps his cell phone & wallet in his own pockets.

DS & DD are keepers of their own water bottles.

Pack light in the parks. You really do not need to carry a bunch of stuff around for a 4 or 5 hour touring day, before you retreat back to your resort.

If you are a day guest with a car - you may want to plan a CS where you can refill water bottles with free ice.

If people have time to look and even CARE about what you have on and what you are wearing ... they need to get a life ... and/or they are not doing WDW right! I mean people are wearing MOUSE EARS for goodness sake!

I swear ... I couldn't tell you WHAT anyone wore or didn't wear. Now ... if you are in high school that is a different matter ... please feel free to be cool, cold, carry heavy bags, never without make-up ... etc ... but if you are BEYOND high school -- comfort is everything.

YES ... dorky (old) me does wear a fanny pack. 80's -- 80's ... HEY I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK ... :lmao:

Wear whatever makes you feel ok ... or don't -- the decision is in your hands. Have fun!

That is true. With that said I still wear one to my kids dismay.

Most people seem to carry backpacks more than fannypacks.

The way I see it:
You're most likely not going to see those people ever again AND it's your vacation, you should be able to do what is most convenient/comfortable for you.

Yeah I think a fanny pack is a little outdated. Have you thought of buying a bagallini? Its a sling backpack, convenient and doesnt look as silly as a fanny pack.

With all that being said, I may just carry both :lmao: That way I can leave non-expensive items in backpack, so if it is stolen or lost, no big loss, and leave cash, tickets, KTTW card, etc in fannypack and/or pockets. I am sure I will change my mind a thousand times before we get there and then I will probably doubt myself. My DH would say, take nothing, but I cannot see paying out the butt for something or having to hunt it down when I could have it on by back :thumbsup2
So if you are at the parks in June and see someone with a backpack and fanny pack, it is NOT me :upsidedow

I will have to look into that--luckily my kids are 11 and 7 and I don't have to worry about outfits, diapers, etc. I was going to take a pair of socks for them. Other than that, mainly, I am considering taking: Tylanol (adult and child) bandaids, ponchos, camera, batteries, cash, KTTW card, cell phone, snacks, misting fans, a few water bottles, sunglasses, sunscreen, lipbalm with SPF, hand sanitizer and an autograph book/item. I know it looks like a lot, but really it is just a bunch of little stuff with the exception of the water and snacks. With this being our FIRST trip, I am a little nervous about not being prepared.

SILLY!!!!!!!!!! SILLY!!!!!!!!!!????? Again ... I resemble that remark. Darn I am so glad to be grown up and not care ... ha ha ... :) though I did quote so maybe I do ... but not enough to give up my King's Dominion fanny pack!

Do what ever you are comfortable with. We wear ours everyday at the parks and it works for us. Couldn't care less about others snickering, I'm happy and that is all that counts.
If you need a backpack think about the half backpacks we call them up here. One strap and enough room for a change of clothes or sweaters for two and some water. We bring all of the above just in case the situation arises and it is needed.
Dec 08 we had the half backpack because it was cold at night and we carried sweater with us if needed but I still wore the fanny pack with all my small stuff.
