For next years trip I am thinking about getting fanny packs for DD6 and DS10 to wear. We have discovered that giving them each money works well except that they are more likely than not to leave their wallets back at the room. I thought that by giving them fanny packs with their money, autograph books, etc, not only would they be more likely to remember what they want to take along but we may also be able to downgrade from a backpack to a few fanny packs. Has anyone tried this with kids this age and with what results? Also any suggestions on where to get kids fanny packs?

I did this last trip with dd who was 8 at the time. It was large enough to hold her autograph book & fat pen. She didn't hold her own money though because I thought it might fall out while she was taking her book in & out.

Now we are in the process of looking for a "cool" bag that can hold her wallet, autograph book, cell phone & toothbrush & stuff (she wears braces). Oh, and she needs to be able to wear it on rides and something that can handle getting wet...... :confused3

Our twins turned 5 on our last trip and they each carried fanny pack. We found small ones for their little bodies, but they were big enough to hold a pack of tissues, hand sanitizer, small kid wallet, small bottle of bubbles (great entertainment in long lines- for us and those around us ;) ), and sunglasses when for when we were inside. There were only a few times they didn't want them on; otherwise they liked having them and looking like everyone else!

We leave in 37 days and will be bringing them along again. Hmmm... only now my kids are nearly 7!! Guess I need to be trying those packs on them soon! Good luck- I'm all for lightening Mom's packpack!!

Our older kids each had their own fanny packs for our last trip, and I intend to use them in October, too. They worked out great. Each child carried his/her own snacks, a small flashlight, autograph book, pen, etc. They loved having their own stuff, and it helped to not have to dig through the diaper bag every 10 minutes.

We got our packs from Gearlabs.com. We got the regular sized ones for the kids, although I am getting the mini one for our 3-year-old this time.

Our kids have used them since they were 2 1/2. We have the ones you used to get when you checked in with AmEx they are smallish. We put a snack, gum, a toy & sometimes their Lanyards when they get to heavy around their necks & they put their sunglasses in them when on rides. now that they are older I might let them have some money also.

DH uses a larger one. I do not use one I don't need anything added to my "fanny" ;)

We went last year for the first time and did not use them, we were so unprepared though. We are definately using them next trip! Even if it's just for the autograph books and pens. They will easily be able to pull them out.
