I thought I read somewhere. That if my wife and I go.. and we had a 5 year old. That I could go on a ride with the 5 year old, and then my wife could skip the line when I am done. Anyone have information on this?

I think you might be referring to the child swap option. If your 5yo is not tall enough to ride a ride, you tell the cm and he/she will issue you a child swap pass. This will allow you to ride once, waiting in the regular ride. When you are done, your wife can use the pass to wait the short FP wait. This will not work for any attraction that your 5 yo is tall enough to ride, though. We used to love this option. But, our youngest is finally over 42", so he can technically ride just about all of the biggies.

Don't mean to hijack the thread....what if the child is tall enough, but too scared to ride, but both adults want to ride? Can we all wait, then swap off?

This happened to us.... DD (at the age of 5) chickened out on a ride (she was big enough) right before boarding. The CM offered to let us do the immortal "Chuck Bubba Relay" (what guidebook is that from?) I don't think they really care about the exact age of the child in question, do they? The CMs seemed very understanding about it.

Rider Switch is the official term, I believe.

Not sure about WDW, but at DLR that really depends on the CM at the line.

"Chuck Bubba" (Unofficial Guide, I believe) is for rides withOUT height requirements and the official Rider Switch option and, IMO, isn't the coolest thing a person can do. We would never do it. We won't even have one person stay in the line while adult+kid run off for an emergency potty break for the leavers to come back; we all get out of line and try again later!

We take part in Rider Switch when it's available, though.

Honestly, in both this situation and the OP's it would be best to just get FPs.

Rider Switch is intended only for children that do not meet the height requirement.

Another benefit of it is that the second adult does not have to ride alone. (If you have a larger family the second parent can take up to two people with them and the rider switch pass.) Since there are only two adults in both of your situations, you're going to have to ride alone anyway. Your wait will be shortest if you just get two FPs and each go through the FP line separately.

Is there a baby involved in any of this, or just the 3 of you? Because if it's just the 3 of you, you could just ride together :rolleyes1

If there's a child too small to ride, then yes, you can get a rider swap, and your 5 year old can ride twice, once with each parent.

The Child switch option is for rides with a height requirment that a child may not meet. They MAY allow swap for a child who is too frightened. They MAY not.We had one cm allow it and the rest did not .It is not designed for that.I will tell you that before they even issued the rider switch, they want to see the child , apparantly this has been abused so much

Since the switch option has been explained, I want to point out another option. Single Rider Que! Not all rides have them. I like roller coasters, but DD is mostly too small (she was anyway) and DH doesn't like them. The fastpass return was really sucky one day at AK for EE, so I did single rider. Took 5 min in line!

Not all rides have the child swap option, either - Pirates of the Carribean at WDW does NOT. We had to wait through line twice because DD was frightened.

I don't know if there's an official list anywhere - but I'm betting there is.

Officially only the rides with a Height requirement have the rider switch option

The child swap will only work if one young child will not ride. Not if both of you want to ride with the young child separately. It's so the child won't have to wait by themself while Mom and Dad ride the attraction.
