We are taking three children to WDW for NYE. I was just curious on family sizes and how families handle rides with "odd" number of children.

I will start. I have DD 7 1/2 (the 1/2 is very important to her) and B/G twins who will just be 5.

Thanks

We rode almost everything 3 and 3, so I don't imagine it will be a problem on any of the rides your kids want to ride.

My older two kids are only 16 months apart so they are close enough to ride all of the same things. Then we have suprise baby #3 that came 4 years later. What we usually end up doing is dh goes with the older two, they sit together while dh rides alone behind them and I take the youngest on his size rides. For rides we can all do together we have the older two sit together while dh (or I) rides with the youngest and the other rides alone.

The youngest will finally be big enough to ride nearly everything at Disney when we go next year. That will be new, we won't have to seperate very much at all.

Most of the ride cars will fit up to three people. Otherwise there may be a big ride vehicle that you may have to be in different rows but same car. We have a family of five and had no problems.

I am glad to hear it will not be much of an issue at WDW. We have been "practicing" :) for MK at Hershey Park. Usually I take one of the twins, DH takes the other and 7-year-old rides between us or behind of is that is possible.

When that won't work, I usaually wait with a kid or two and poor DH has to ride the same ride two or three times. I was hopping MK accomidated more than two/four riders at a time.

Thanks again.

I usually ride seperate. It's just me DH and DS(almost)6. Uaually I the one stuck in my own flying elephant or the back of the flying carpet. Nothin like being the only adult riding alone on Dumbo.

I think we're twins! We were just at Hershey and just had a long conversation about how we were going to "do Disney" with three kids, two adults....I'm concerned because my 7 1/2 year old is a jittery kid and doesn't like to be alone in a front or back seat, but my two younger ones are too young to ride alone. We'll manage, I'm sure, but it does leave me wondering what kind of hoops I'm going to have to jump through in order to ensure everyone gets to ride what they want!

I don't remember it being a problem - I did avoid riding Dumbo, however. We do have to prepare while we wait in line, and I like to mix it up!

You can fit 3 (or more) one adult and two kids in most of the rides so you can ride 3 and 2. I travel as the solo adult with my 2 dd's and we have never had a problem riding as 3 even in BTMR and the Barnstormer.

For the 40" rides if your 5yo's are tall enough you can ride 3 or more to a row including BTMR and Splash. Kali is 6 or 8 to a raft, if they are tall enough for the 44"s then Mission Space is 4 to a pod so you will have to separate 3/2, Space Mtn is three to a car one after the other.

That's all I can thing of right now, if you have specific ride questions ask away !

I am so glad this thread got started, I wil be going with my 6 year old twins on Friday, along with my best friend, her husband and two kids, I have been wondering how we are goiing to do rides. If my husband was going we could do ride swap, but now I am thinking we will be missing some rides, without knowing which ones will accomodate one adult and two kids.

We sort out ahead of time who rides where. Since we usually do Disney without DH, but with my mom, I usually get shafted, becuase my older two (5 and 4) want to ride with Meme, so I end up with my 2 yr old on most rides. It was really cool when I tried Disneyland solo a few times, they had a CM ride with DD(4 at the time) while I rode with the little ones on Dumbo. That was the highlight of her day, riding with a new friend!
On the bigger rides where it is just me and DD5 and DS4, if it is a 2 seater (BTMR, Splash or DL's Space) I'll usually have them sit side by side while I sit in back of them, or we'll take turns sitting alone.

We are a family of 5 and have trouble on very few rides. Most will fit at least 3 across, so we often end up dividing up as 3 and 2. A few rides to consider are:
1) Both Toy Story rides (if everyone wants a gun, someone will have to sit alone
2)EE and RnR have individual seats, 2 across (not sure if your 5 year olds would even be going on these)
3) Goofy's Barnstormer (I think it would be too small for 3, never tried)
4) Indy Speedway - You need to be 52" I believe to drive alone, not sure if your 7 year old would be tall enough, my oldest was then, my 2nd not until age 9
5) Kali River Rapids - You will all be on the same raft, but the seats are in groups of 2.

We have fit 1 adult, 2 children on Dumbo and BTMRR.
We have also fit 2 adults and 1 child fine in one seat on Splash Mountain. (DH is skinny, but I am not and we were fine with DD in between)

I found the CM's at Disney extremely helpful at each ride in letting us know the best way for our family to ride. I was very pleased at how few times someone actually had to sit alone.:goodvibes

Thank you for the info. I have been trying to use books and the disney website to figure all this out. I should have know to post here first. It would have saved me loads of time. :goodvibes

My 7-year-old is actually doing pretty well with riding alone or with another single rider. We are very careful that we are near her at all times.

Hershey Park is strict on the height requirement, but they have let our seven year old ride with her brother/sister and let one of the adults ride alone.

Thanks again for the info.

Twins4Disney: You will have to let me know how the whole "twins" thing works. I am soo excited to take them, but am worried about two five year olds being let loose on WDW.

Both times we have gone so far my dd was too small to anything major the like any of the Mountains or Dinosaur. So I would go with my boys and then my husband would go with them and they would get to ride the ride twice. On rides where my dd could ride we would split up 3 and 2 and we would let the kids decide who they wanted to ride with.

We are going again in Sept and we are bringing along my mom and her boyfriend so we are still going to be an odd # and dd will not be able to go on SM, EE and RnR so I think 5 of us will ride the thrill rides and my dd and mom's bf will stay behind. I have already said I will ride alone on those rides because I don't mind riding alone at all, but I am sure we will figure something out when we get there.

too funny! I am in reverse- my twins are 7 1/2 (& the 1/2 IS a big deal - lol) and my little one is 5!

We go 3 & 2 if we are all going on.
