Family pictures - no shoes

I keep seeing family pictures where no one in the family is wearing shoes.

Why is this? What's wrong with wearing shoes? What's better about not wearing shoes? Most bare feet aren't all that pretty.....

More so than that, IMO (cause I can just throw my backdrops in the wash and I mostly work on location anyway) it is because often the shoes don't coordinate, don't fit the session, and are actually often distracting. It really depends on the feel of the session though and the level of formality, IMO. Jeans and t-shirts? Skip the shoes. Dressy? keep the shoes. Location matters too. Beach = barefoot, family photos at a wedding = shoes.

I love the barefoot pictures!! It makes the family look "real", down to earth, laid back, and fun!! It's not like these are only family portraits ever taken of the families in question...I'm sure they have plenty of more formal picture with shoes on...There's nothing wrong with kicking back and having a little fun every once in a while.

Yep, same with us on the Wonder. Actually, those photos are some of my favorite. I like seeing people more relaxed and themselves anyway.

I love the barefoot pictures!! It makes the family look "real", down to earth, laid back, and fun!! It's not like these are only family portraits ever taken of the families in question...I'm sure they have plenty of more formal picture with shoes on...There's nothing wrong with kicking back and having a little fun every once in a while.

These must be the same people that think people should always wear shoes in the house too....

Shoes are the first thing that comes off when I get in the door. Used to run around bare foot outside too when I was a kid.

You think your children's feet are gross??? How odd! I can see how I might not want a barefoot picture of SOMEONE ELSE'S family, but my family's feet are precious to me (yes, even DH... though I tease him about his toes endlessly).
