I have read about "family of the day" being boarded in the first group. What is it? How do they pick?

I have read about "family of the day" being boarded in the first group. What is it? How do they pick?

Some random CM in the terminal is tapped to select the Family of the Day (it changes who it is). Then they get a special seating area before boarding and are boarded (I think) first.

Each CM has their own criteria - but I've heard it often seems to help if you wear matching shirts, or have really cute (well-behaved) kids, or are especially bubbly. But, it's always a family (mom, dad, kids). I've never heard of it being just a couple or a single person.

Can't say with certainty but I imagine, just like at the parks, it's the luck of the draw! In the right spot at the right time.

Two of our adult children, my DH and I were chosen as Family of the Day a few years ago in Galveston. Not sure why. No matching shirts, etc..

We were almost the first to board. While everyone was waiting in the terminal, a family was walked straight on well before boarding began. I suspected the father was a celebrity/athlete headed for a suite.

Thanks everyone! I had seen it mentioned a few times in some older posts I was reading and was unsure.

We were selected for our Alaska cruise this past June. As others have mentioned it's pretty random - they seem to just pick a family that seems happy and excited to be there, and you have to be there early. In our case we were wearing matching shirts and had let my 2yo DS play a bit in the open area in front of where the chairs were set up, he was dancing around doing what he called his "awesome dance" talking to the cast members and generally being pretty stinking cute. it was still a total surprise to get selected.

We got a "Family of the Day" certificate, a chance for a special set of pictures with Mickey and Minnie, and were announced/got to board first, which was really fun. Room service also delivered a different "amenity" each day to the room (fruits/cookies/cheeses, etc) throughout the cruise.

A fun experience, but not anything you can plan on for sure!
