Family of 7 - which resort

Hi all,

I'm planning my trip for next year. We stayed at Po Riverside last year but have since added a baby, and my mother in law wants to come with us next time. Which resorts are best for this size. I don't want adjoining rooms. Have tried that and they don't promise them.

Probably the best bet for a group your size is to get a 2 Bedroom Villa at one of the DVC resorts. They sleep 8. There are villas this size at each of the DVC resorts, which are Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas, Old Key West, Villas of Wilderness Lodge.

These resorts do take cash reservations, but you may want to see if a DVC member would rent points to you for your stay, which usually is less expensive than making a cash reservation.

There is a DVC Rent/Trade board on this forum. Just pop over there and see what kind of information you can get.

Just to let you know, DVC members can't make reservations earlier than 11 months out at their home resort, so if you are planning on later 2003, they can't make the ressie for you yet, but cna give you point information.

Just wanted to point out that adjoning rooms means next to each other "connecting" rooms are the ones with the doors between them.

I would take a look at the Ft. Wilderness Cabins, formerly the Ft. Wilderness trailer homes. They sleep six with room for a child under 3. I would rent a car however, if that becomes an option for you.

We've had connecting rooms guaranteed many times, because we had more than 4 in a room when there were children involved. One time we went and they guaranteed connecting rooms even with my one of my daughters being over 18. CRO told me they guarantee them for families with kids. Just because your MIL is coming with doesn't mean they should separate you from all your kids. I would call again and ask them about their policy regarding children and connecting rooms.

There is a board ofr DVC rentals and trades. My family is going down in Septemebr for 5 nights, Sunday-Friday for my parents 40th anniversary. We are renting points from a DVC member. It will cost us 2100 for a 2 bedroom and a studio at the Boardwalk. Not only is it one of my favorite resorts, it is in my favorite area. The Boardwalk is a special area with so much to do.

Deoending on your budget, time of year, and length of stay, you may find it worthwhile to look into. The 2 bedroom sleeps 8 and has a full kitchen and two bathrooms!

I would also recommend a 2 bedroom villa. Renting points is a great idea!!

The wilderness homes are nice too... but you have to love the "great outdoors"!

Even if they won't guarantee connecting rooms at a hotel, you will most likely get them if the issue is having numerous kids. We once had reserved connecting rooms for two adults 4 kids at PO for Easter time several years back. The usual no guarantee. We arrived late in the evening and they had no connecting rooms left and we explained we really needed them. The manager said he would see what he could do. The next thing we knew we had two connecting rooms at GF for the same price we were paying at PO. With all due reluctance we accepted their compromise.

Disney's policy is that they will not guarantee connecting rooms if there are more than 2 adults in the party.

In this particular case, I would get the guarantee for your own family without your MIL. If Grandma decides to come later, add her on when you get there. The options for families of 6 are limited enough as it is, without having to be worried about getting your guaranteed connecting rooms.

BTW, the last time we were a party of 6 (me, my Mom, My MIL and my 3 kids (youngest an infant then)) we stayed in a Wilderness home and it was fine. We did drive the car to the parks every time though. The transportation was too tedious for our crowd.

I've been told by CMs at CRO on more than one occasion that Disney does guarantee connecting rooms for families with children even if there are 2 adults in the party. I've had them guaranteed in the past for this reason. Maybe the've changed their policy. But even when we haven't had them guaranteed but wanted connecting rooms with others, we have always gotten our request. Sometimes we've had to wait until late in the day, but it is worth it for us to get what we want.
