I suppose it all depends on how picky you are about location! If you are willing to be a little flexible than you can certainly find MUCH better deals off site. You can also find great deals if you spend some time looking around. The Disney Springs area is more expensive than we are willing to pay. But we don't mind driving a little further and have found some VERY nice resort options that are within 20 minutes or so to the parks.

I know I am picky about the area. To me at night Disney Springs seems pretty far away from the parks. I wouldn't want to be any farther out than that.

We haven't been since Downtown Disney turned into Disney Springs, but it seems like a nice area and still has that "I'm at Disney" feel.. I have actually looked into some hotel options in that area. But we found that the Davenport area isn't bad and is very close to the parks. The resort we stayed at was there and was lovely. Several others I have seen online are in that area. We liked it and felt perfectly safe there.
