family of 5

Well, we have stayed at POR twice with 5 people, myself (35) my parents (senior citizens) and my two kids (DD7 and DS11-10 at the last trip). It didn't seem crowded to us, but if the kids were bigger it might have. As for the trundle, my mom and I both slept on it and found it comfy, although I will say at 5'5" and a half, my feet would have hung off the end if I slept stretched out. Since I'm a side, fetal position sleeper it was just fine for me. This was the cheapest option for us and since we only spent sleeping time in the room it really didn't matter. Heck after at day at EPCOT I could have slept standing on my head in the bathtub. Hope that helps.

You can get by with 5 people in a one bedroom villa. Just bring a twin size air mattress for one of the kids. Officially it sleeps 4 but DVC members are allowed 5. There is no comparison to a moderate room.

Below is a link to some details on renting:

Thanks for all the advice.. we decided to change our dates so that we could take advantage of the free dinning.. and then stay at the comtemporary..
A wing room... hopefully it will turn out ok. :goodvibes

We have stayed at POR with our three children and we loved it. However, our children were 9,7, and 5 at the time. We're going again and splitting our stay at POR and at POLY. Our children will be 11, 8, and 7 at the time. Our youngest, by then 7, will be the one staying in the trundle bed. It is not a rollaway. It pulls out from under one of the double beds. Your 8 year old will have to be the one to use it. It's not bad at all. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room and we loved the resort. That's why we're going again. If I had free dining added on ... I would certainly go to POR and explain to the kids that when you are all in the room everyone needs to get along!!! Have fun!!

I hope one of your kids is short. The day bed is not really a bed.

The very reason I changed the dates and am staying at the Comtemporary because my 16 yr old is as big as his dad.. the 15 yr old (girl) is taller than me (no biggy since I am 5'2)... Since the PO wasn't really gonna fit us w/out bringing in a rollaway... I am glad we are staying in a larger room...

thanks for everyone's advice.. :sunny:

The day beds at the Contemporary are the same size as a Twin bed.

Go to the DVC rent trade board should be able to get $10 point. :Pinkbounc

Sorry, but that's incorrect. It is described as a sofa bed. It is comfort rated for a small child. If you call the CR they'll tell you it's for someone 5 feet tall or under. A taller person may fit if they sleep in the fetal position but not stretched out.

On top of that, the day bed is more of a bench with a pad. It is not a regular mattress so a larger person may not comfortable unless they like it firm.

I also have a family of five, and we like the extra room and save money on food with the full kitchen, in the fort wilderness cabins. The bedroom has bunk beds and a double bed and there is a double murphy bed in the living room.

So the Comtemporary isn't good either?

Are the cabins the only ones that accomodate 5 confortable... I got a package.. so I guess I can't rent the timeshares and have a package...

I am so confused now!!

I personally do not find the daybeds at the Contemporary uncomfortable for an adult. Certainly to me they are better than the daybeds at the Yacht and Beach, which I do consider to be not much more than a pad on a bench. Once you fold the sofa/futon down it is pretty roomy and definitely large enough for a child. The rooms at the Contemporary are some of the largest on property and have really large bathrooms.

The Contemporary also has a great arcade and fast food snack area, boats on Bay Lake to rent and the monorail right in your lobby.

If you have a package booked you can not rent points without cancelling your package.

You should be fine at the CR. The rooms are large for a hotel room and you don't have to spend a lot of time there. The kids have access to a great game room and you're on the monorail so you could all take quick trips to the other resorts.

As long as you know what to expect you will not have a problem. Make the most of the free dining and enjoy your vacation. The CR is one of my favorite places to stay.

My family stayed in Garden Wing room at CR last October, and the room was great! My DS 13 slept on the fold-down bed and he was comfortable. This year we did opt for 2 connecting rooms at a Value resort, which came out lots cheaper than one room at the CR. :earsboy:

You'll love the Contemporary. We stayed there about three weeks ago for the first time and thought it was great. We were in a South Wing Garden room and it was huge. We only had three, so my husband and I each got a bed and our 12 yr old slept on the day bed. It was plenty long enough for him. We had a wonderful stay. And, we are DVC members who stayed there on points. A great resort.

We're DVC members and always got at least a two bedroom because there were always 8 of us (past tense because it's rare when we can all go at the same time now-all adults). One Daughter, 5 boys.

When it came time to divy up the beds some of the boys had a real problem sleeping with another boy. There was always one on the floor and one squished on the loveseat. Go figure.

Most of your time will be spent out of the room and the sleeping arrangements will work somehow.

Have a great trip.

You'll be fine at the Contemporary. I haven't seen the daybed there, but am always puzzled about the comments people on the boards make about the ones I have seen (YC and Poly). My teens practically fought over the daybed last time we were at the YC.

You should be fine with the day bed. It wouldn't be any worse then sleeping on a roll away bed.

We are going to be staying at the Poly and my son who will be 8 then will be sleeping on the day bed. He slept on the on at CR, but he was only 4 then.
