What are the options for staying on site for a family of five (2 adults and three children all under 8 with no infants.) Definitly on a budget ;)
Thanks for all information

Two rooms at the All-Stars or one room at Port Orleans Riverside-you get 2 doubles and a trundle. Next up the financial ladder would probably be Fort Wilderness Cabins. Then , the deluxes hold 5- Contemporary, Poly, BWI, YC/BC.

If you search here, there are lots of descriptions about rooms for 5.

This will be our first trip with 5. DW was pregnant with DS3 when we were last there in Jan, 2002. Children are now 9,6,3

After looking at the various options we decided on a 2 bedroom condo offsite (Liki Tiki Village) for 7 days with 3 more days at POR. There was a good price offered for POR ($133 incl taxes). We've previously stayed at AS and thought POR would be fun.

In 2002 we stayed at what was the Holiday Inn Family Suites -- now Nickelodeon Family Suites. We stayed there with a packaged vacation. VERY family friendly and the kids loved their own room with bunkbeds. The pool was also very good. It was quite close to DTD as I recall.

We're going Nov 4-14. I can report after that how the POR room with trundle bed works

We are traveling with a family of five on our upcoming Nov trip and we had the same issue. Deluxe rates were out of their budget so that leaves you with the values or the moderates. You can either do two rooms at one of the value resorts or book POR as this is the only moderate that can sleep a party of five when all members of said party are 3years of age or older. The AB section of POR has trundle beds.

So we are booked to stay at POR our friends in one room with their three kids and us in a second room.

Good luck. Disney really does not have many choices for families of five that cannot afford or choose not to pay deluxe prices.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions ... I plugged in our dates for Port Orleans and came up with about 1200 for 7 nights but it said that there might be an extra charge for the trundle bed ... does anyone know if there is and what that charge would be ???
(We could book th Swan for $165 per night (teachers rate) but no ME ...)
Thanks Again

Hi,

They no longer charge extra for the trundle bed. They do charge for extra for more then two people in the same room 18yrs of age or older.

Although I'd love to stay at AKL or WL bunk bed rooms, just couldn't justify the $$$. We debated between POR with trundle and 2 rooms at All Star Movies and chose All Star for the theming, space [it will be nice to hang out with DH while kids are asleep], etc.

We are doing Jan 2-7 park hopper 6 days and dining plan for about $2300 total tax and all. We used AAA to get a discount on the room portion. I believe the POR one room was a savings of $100. AKL was almost $1000 more. We will probably spend a couple hundred extra on mousekeeping tips, some kid meals, etc. So we have the free shuttle to and from property, plus use of bus, boat & and monorail.

Off-site, I'd definitely look into the Holiday Inn Nick themed hotel. I stayed at one like it in another city and it was wonderful. If we were going during summer, I'd consider for the pools, etc.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you!!

Trish

P.S. Just noticed that I'm a Mouseketeer!!! Yipee!

Hi family of 5's. Me also and when we went 2 years ago we stayed in ASM because the youngest was only 2 1/2 and it was really fun and great. Last Feb.05 we could of stayed there again but had 2 rooms and it was going to cost us a extra 300.00 US to stay there. Our CAA rep suggested POR and it was cheaper and the kids loved it. I thought they wouldn't because it's not a disney theme. The trundle bed is great and the room and the extra sink in the morning is great. If we go back in Feb.06 it will be POR all the way.

We are a family of five as well. We chose two connecting rooms @ Pop because we wanted to go to sleep later than the kids (6, 3, 22mo).

Also, I am hoping DH will be less likely to wake them on mornings he has an early tee time and we want to sleep in.

With your kids being so young....a room with a trundle at POR will suit you wonderfully! When the kids are older, you may be better off going for the 2 rooms at a value but try POR now!

We just did two connecting rooms at POR for our party of 10...4 adults, and 6 kids ages 14,11,7,5,3 & 1 and it worked great! The privacy curtain helped keep the light out of others eyes while some of us got up early. We usually were so wiped out after getting back from the parks, we all went to sleep as soon as we hit the bed. My kids aren't bothered by the TV though so if I wanted to catch some news it didn't keep them awake.

Moneywise, POR is the best! It is a lovely resort with a great pool that your kids will love. My kids can't wait to go back.

Another family of five here. we originally planned to stay at POR, then considered joining rooms at one of the values but now we are back at POR. Weve stayed at the all star sports when we just had 2 children, and it would be nice to have two bathrooms and two TVs like we would have if we had joining rooms, but we would like to try POR just so we can see which we like better so we will have an idea where we would like to stay the time after this next trip.
