Family Nicknames

This is inspired by the "Family Words" thread...we don't have too many family words, but we use multiple nicknames for ourselves all the time...and get strange looks in public occasionnally when they don't get left at home

Here are ours, I'd love to hear other families nicknames too!

DH and myself have one nickname that gets used all the time:
Bunky

What's strange is that we call each other that, so we're BOTH Bunky. It is nearly always how we address each other when we're not in public.

DSon (whose actual name is Cole):
Boo - His most common nickname that started at birth and is used most often
Bahboo
Bubba Boo
Bubba Roy
Pokey

DDog (whose actual name is Moe):
Moekipsky
Flutter Butter
Pokey
Muttsie
Fluffy Boy
Moe Moe
Fluffy Butt
Puffer Belly

Is it wrong DS and DDog share a nickname?

In our family, we add an "er" to people's names, or the first part of their name. For example, I'm Becky, but I'm frequently called Becker. My dad started it years ago, and we used to kind of poke fun at it, but suddenly it stuck. It works for most names. We have a Gabber and a Joser, too.

OMG. don't get me started on family nicknames. I had an aunt Hido, another called Tooday, a cousin Muggs, an uncle Bocefus, my DF was Uncle Tunk, and my sister has always been Sunny. I don't know how the rest of us escaped.

My Grandma's name was Alice, but EVERYONE called her Babe, from the time she was a little girl.

The grandkids all called her "Grandma Babe".
Grandma Babe named her daughter Alice and my Grandpa said, when she was a newborn, oh look at my little piggy! He kept called her Piggy until my grandma told him to at least call her Peggy insteda of Piggy..and she was forever known as Peggy from then on.


Nicknames in my family:

DH and I usually call each other Hon. I call him Jim or Jimmy, he calls me Vick usually.
My Dad and Mom(more my dad though) used to call me Tootsie Bell.

My son is just Ty short for Tyler,(DH and I sometimes refer to him as "the Boy") but my daughter I call Dumpy or Dump. Short for Dumplin'. I do get wierd looks when I'm out and refer to her as Dump. She loves it, though. BTW her name is Amanda...not Dumplin. I just call DH "Strange man". He can never find anthing in our house. Socks, shoes, hairbrush, clothes....it's like he's this strange man that just shows up sometimes and doesn't know where anthing is.

My husband and I call each other Babe. In fact it seems strange if we call eachother Pat (which I always say...Patrick is just to formal for just me LOL) or Lisa. Also, we are Harry and Sally, but we only use that for a special card or gift at birthday, Christmas, etc.

I call our son Matty and Sweepea all the time, and my husband always calls him Sport.

My nephews name is Robert and we all call him Scooter!! I dont know where that name came from but it was cute for the first 17 years.. once he turned 17 he wanted to be called Robert and hates that he's now going on 22 and we still call him Scooter.. Its a habit..

My sisters name is Karen and growing up we always called her Missy..

My brother Robert was always called Bobby aka Motor Mouth

My brother Jimmy was always called Baldy

My other brother Danny was always called Danny Fanny by us sisters and brothers..

My DD8 calls my DS12 Bubby.. He hates it..

I'm sweetie, he is Honey. In writting we address & sign to each other as Him and Her.

DS - Peanut
Every summer we go to a lake on vacation. When DS was about 4 he spent so much time in the water that his skin chapped and he got these little crack lines in his tan that looked like a peanut, hence the nickname. The funny thing is DS has always been huge, he was an 11# baby, at 16 he is 6' 4" 240.
I try to remember to not use it in public, but ironically it doesn't bug him much.

DD - Brat & Princess - as a toddler she was the Turdler, she was a toddler who was a turd!

Our cat Simon is very fat and we call him Fat Cat or Biffy, no one even uses his name anymore, he is going to need therapy

My eldest son's name is Christopher(23y.o.)...from about age 3 months until he walked he would kick his feet uncontrollably all the time, and as I would say to him, "kick those feet"..he would get more excited and kick and kick and kick that eventually we started calling him Kicky and to THIS day he is Kick, the Kickster, Kicky but mostly with JUST family. Outside the house he is Chris.

My youngest son is Michael Patrick (20y.o.) and from birth we have all called him PADDY. Once again, mostly JUST the family.

My sister is Helen and we have always always called her Honey. When we are out in public, it is so funny, when all the girls are shopping and one of us calls to her in a store or Mall, "Hey, Honey, do you like these shoes"...hahaha everyone stares at us.... Once again, mostly JUST the family.

My dad before he passed was called BLANKET by my kids and my nephew-my DS14 started it when he was a baby because my dad always played hide and go seek w/him using a blanket

too odd-my brother in law's nick name (actualy most of the family calls him by this) is "bunky". his birth father named both he and a subsequent son by another marriage the same name (identical on their birth certificates) with the nickname "bunky" (some family tradition that dates back a couple of generations).

our ds has the nickname "mr. bumpy" from a cartoon circa the '90's called 'bump in the night". the claymation character made rude belching noises, and ds (like most newborns) made odd belching and gastric noises so the name kind of fit.

dd's nickname is "mouse"-which we actualy chose based on her anticipated given name prior to her birth. the odd thing was she was a lightweight when born and her cry sounded much like a mouse's squeek.

the only other sticking nicknames in our family are (1) "granny grump"-at some point in time my brother made a comment in front of the kids (my mom's only grandkids) that "granny is a grump" and (at least for us adults) it kind of stuck (at least when we want to tease grandma) and (2) "mr. uncle dad'-we had a female friend who had her dd refer to every one of her (mom's) boyfriend's a "uncle" , so we started refering to her significant other's as "mr. uncle dad" (the wierd thing is, we have another friend who left her husband and began dating her -no blood related-step brother-and if they marry, the kids will literaly have a "mr. uncle dad" ).

for as long as i can remember, my dad has called me "sunshine"...used to bother me when i was in high school, but now im 21 and i come to expect it! i hear "good morning sunshine" every day ..

i used to call my younger brother "joey-o-e-o"...he hates it!

When DS was born we named him Nathan because I loved that name so much. But he ended up not seeming like a Nathan to me, so I called him Bud or Buddy for awhile. Now he is Nate or Nathan half the time and Bud or Buddy the other half of the time. His big sister calls him Natey and has since the day he was born .

DD's nickname is Peanut or Princess.

We have a friend who refers to DH as Buster. I'm Mrs. Buster. DS and DD are Little Buster's.

Me, I have several - Muther (when I annoy my kiddos ), mommy (when they want something), mom-mom-mom (when they are trying to get my attention) Snooky (Dh calls me that because he knows it annoys me to no end )Sweety (cause I'm his sweety or when he really wants something )

My nickname (ever since I was about 8 months old) has been "Mo". When I was little (back before people knew better) my dad would put honey on my pacifier. I would suck it all off and stick out my pacifier and say, "MO! MO!" Everyone thought I was calling my pacifier "Mo" but I was really asking for "Mo Honey!"

To this day, they call me "Mo" and my Paw-Pa calls me (and writes on all of my cards) "Moranda"
