Has anyone done a trip with family members along with them since My Disney Experience/MB/FP+? How does it work? Do you have to manage their stuff as well? or Will they be able to set up their own account and manage their fastpasses without logging onto our MDE account? Please let know how it works if you have done it.

We are having DH's Mom, Dad and one niece(7) join us on our next trip. They are staying in the room with us, on one reservation. We don't plan on being with them all the time in the parks or at meals and what not; they are even buying less days on their tickets then us, so I was trying to get an idea of how everything will work?

Also is it good to start out with some ground rules when vacationing together? What kind would you make?

Anything else I need to know??

Thank you so much!!!!

There were three of us staying over Christmas and we each have our own MDE account. I had no problems making FP+ selections for us. For one of the people, we didn't even link park admission until Christmas Eve and I then copied my FP+ selections over to her profile.

I would say that if they would be likely to travel to WDW without you, they should setup their own MDE account. If they setup their own MDE account, you would use the invite function to connect with them. Either you or any of your 'connected' family & friends can make plans for everyone.

If they use our MDE account wouldnt have to give them pur password cuz if so I am not comfortable with that and would rather them have their own account so they can change their fastpasses and what not.

Anybody have suggestions on ground rules esp with kids that irritate another child.

The best option would probably be for the other family to setup their own MDE account and add their family members as managed profiles.

Once they setup the MDE account, add the account holder to your Family & Friends list. Use the 'Invite' function to connect with their MDE account. The account holder will need to accept the invite.

Once the have accepted the 'Invite' for the primary person, use the 'Invite Through a Mutual Friend' option to add their managed profiles. The primary account holder will need to accept the invites for the managed profiles also.

With the above setup, the other family has full control over their MDE account should they ever take a WDW vacation on their own.

Keep in mind that any of your connected family or friends can make or modify FP+ selections for you. You can also make or modify them for any of your connected family or friends.

In my opinion, this is one of the most confusing aspects of the MDE system: Determining how to set-up guests.

The most straightforward approach is to have each adult guest create their own MDE account. Any adult who already has an account with Go.com (Disney), ESPN, ABC or any other affiliated Disney entities just needs to go to the MDE website and accept some terms.

Once an adult has their own MDE account established, you send a friend request and one individual can then handle all (or most) of the other planning.

An adult with their own MDE account can also view the trip plans on the MDE website or smartphone app using their own credentials. If you set them up as managed accounts under your own MDE profile, they would need your username and password to view / modify most of the information.

Giving the adults their own profiles also ensures that some of their trip history--including MagicBands issued and remaining park ticket admissions--follows them around.

Children are a little different since they cannot have their own account. They must be added as a managed account under an adult. If there's a chance of the child traveling with a parent in the future--even if not on this trip--have the parent create an account and add the child. That approach is the most future-proof.

Took me a long time to sort through most of this in my head but now I think I have a handle on it for our family. My wife and I both have our own MDE accounts. Kids are listed under me. My wife and I are "friends", meaning that I can handle all of the planning and account management. She can log-into her own account with her iPhone to view everything or even make changes to our plans when necessary, but I also have full access to add the entire family to hotel reservations, dining reservations, order MagicBands, assign park tickets, etc.

My experience would say Tim is right an all counts. We had 3 of us with our own MDE accounts, and one person who did not want to bother with it. It worked out fine, but occasionally we had issues with the non-MDE person being able to be added to the same FP+ times.

Oh, that is interesting. When you copied your FP+ selections to someone else, do you lose them on your own profile, or does it go to both of you? We will be having the same situation with a huge family vacation next year and I know many of my family won't bother with tickets or setting up MDE accounts until the last minute. If we can just copy our FP+ selections to their profiles at the last minute that would be awesome.

It copies existing FastPass+ selections from one party member to another so that both will have the same FP+ selections.

Can you explain this a little more? Our DD will be going with my parents, her grandparents, next year, 2015, because of this and how the time frame happens we are getting her a annual pass for our upcoming trip in September and then her trip with the grandparents. She will have a magicband and she is on our account. (DH and I share our MDE account) How would it work in that situation?

Just another quick question.... will they be able to customize their own MB?

They way it's setup currently, any individual with their own MDE account can update the customization for all MagicBands on a reservation they are a guest on.

By default, all MagicBands will be shipped to one address. I saw a phone number on the customization screen on the MDE mobile app that says you can call to have the bands shipped to multiple addresses. I don't have an upcoming reservation, so I don't have access to that screen currently.

Are these different grandparents than in your first post?
If yes, the grandparents should setup their own MDE account. Once they've done that, they should do an invite to link to your MDE account. After your MDE account and the grandparents MDE account are 'connected', they can add your DD using the 'Invite Through a Mutual Friend' tab.

That is good to know thank you. It can all be shipped to one already as we live within 20 minutes to each other. (This is my husband's parents and the niece that lives with them.)

Yes, these will be my parents. Thank you for your help it. I appreciate it.

Anybody have suggestions on ground rules esp with kids that irritate another child.

We've done several family trips of various sizes over the years. My biggest piece of advice is to address expectations before you leave. It sounds like you may have done some of this since you don't have the same park schedule but make sure everyone on board, including the kids. For example my DH is not a rope-drop kind of guy. He'd rather sleep in. For my boys and me, the earlier the better. When traveling with family we've found it's better to have two separate meet up times. One for the early birds and a later one for the sleepy heads.

Set behavior expectations with the younger ones and remind them that timeouts and penalties do still exist at WDW (been there, done that). If they are old enough, you can use a subtle type of bribery/reward. Get several rolls of quarters and every morning start each child out with $1-2 worth. When they behave well, give them a quarter. When they behave poorly, take one away. At the end of the day, they can use it in the arcade or the next day to purchase something at the park. This really works if you remember to follow through on the behaving well part and keep each day separate so penalties don't reach back into previous days.

Also address bedtimes, behavior expectations in the room, meals, etc. Ask the kids what they expect or what to do during the trip. Some of our biggest issues (kid blow-ups/misbehavior) resulted because a child expected one thing and adults another.

We also switch off group members throughout our stay to keep there from being a feeling of too much togetherness. For example, some days we visit the parks as one big group, or split up into families. We may do all the guys/girls together or trade kids. Sometimes one person will go off on their own for a short while. Whatever works just as long as it's communicated ahead of time. We also make sure each adult couple has time alone, without kids, at least one evening during our stay for a dining/date night.

Going with family can be a lot of fun and I know you'll have a great time.

Each family is different, I just returned from a trip with my Dh, Dd,Dd and mom, grandma and sister.
They took the tag along approach, I made all of the fast pass+ arrangements. If your family is self sufficient and has their own agenda it's tough to plan your days without everyone going their separate ways :)

This should be part of a sticky! I am surprised there is not yet an MDE/FP+ sticky on the DIS.

Anyway, you suggest that the adult members of the traveling party set up their own MDE account before inviting them. So, if you already have them in your friends list, should they set up and MDE account and then you send an invite to the e-mail address that they use for their personal MDE account. Or, can you send it to any ol' e-mail address they have and they just have to accept the invite using their personal MDE login/password?

Is it more complicated if you send them an invitation before they set up their MDE account?

Ok so I am totally confused. I never even thought about this part of trip. I have a ME acct for myself and DH and we have MB since Oct trip(we have APs). Now going in March with DS and family have not made ressies yet waiting for them to make up mind on days . They do not have passes yet. Another issue. We bought condo in Fl last year with DS (everything split cost wise on purchase and bills, name on title , but not bills because they on put on 1 name?) but he doesn't live there so was hoping to get Fl passes for them, does anyone know what we need? but I digress. So I make ressie and they have to set up an acct for them then I friend them and we all get to make FP+ picks. Boy I thought it was bad with just us last Oct since we are not planners now this seems like a nightmare... Do they need MB to set up acct. Where should I send MB our Fl address(we will be there in March) or pick up at desk when check in?
These trips are not fun anymore..too much planning and confusion.Sooooo stressed. Thanks for any help to explain to someone totally confused.:confused3:confused3:confused3

I have the same question as kidanifano8. My wife and I are DVC owners and we each have our own MDE account (we're already listed as part of each other's family).

We're planning a big family trip in November and NONE of our relatives have there own MDE account yet BUT I already have them all listed on my MDE account as managed accounts. Since this is already done, do they need to set up their account on their own or can I simply "Invite" them (by using the invite button)? Keep in mind they also have small children (which do not have an "invite" button attached to their name) so I'm not sure how to handle them at all.

Also note that all our relatives prefer my wife and I do all the planning and handle all the details so maybe I'm better off just leaving them all as managed accounts. What do you think???

Sincere thanks for your help and advise,
David

We have a friend that has been a cm for a while now. The days she travelled with us, she was able to get 2 guests in.
