What do you serve with your cornbread OTHER than chili?
My kids had this in Orlando and LOVED it. We Canadians don't eat it that much but this was easy to make once we got home (from scratch).

They have enjoyed it with chili and just on its own too.

I didn't want to post this elsewhere or I wouldn't have gotten as many responses as this Family board. Thanks!

ham and bean soup
ham and scalloped potatoes
corn muffins with light lunches
mix in some green chili's and serve with Tex-Mex dishes///

With BBQ ribs meal.
Cornbread is also great with raspberry or strawberry jam for breakfast.

Well, being from Tennessee, I think it is ok to serve it with just about anything. We actually don't eat it with chili in my family, but we do eat it with roast, ham, turkey, pinto beans, etc.

It is one of my favorite things to eat in the world - if it does not have sugar in it.

HTH

BBQ type stuff like Ribs, pulled pork, etc.

A restaurant here called Smokey Bones (not sure if the chain is nation-wide) serves cornbread with a Maple-flavored butter. SOOO good. If anyone is adventurous in the kitchen, may be worth trying.

Cornbread and BBQ!!!!
They go hand in hand. BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, BBQ steak, BBQ pork chops... you get the idea.

Cornbread muffins for a breakfast treat, warm with melted butter.

Cornbread and beef stew also go very well together. :lovestruc

Now I'm hungry, and this preggo is craving cornbread....

I serve cornbread with tons of stuff!
BBQ!!
Beans of any type
Any thick soup/stew

Ham & beans and a big pot of collard greens. My kids also eat it for breakfast warm with butter and maple syrup or honey.

We always have cornbread with Red Beans, Sausage served over Rice. We also have leftover cornbread and milk for breakfast, add a little sugar or cane syrup. We call it "coosh-coosh".

I am also from the South (originally from AL) and my mom makes cornbread nearly everday for supper. Doesn't matter what they are having, they eat it. I love it with pinto or white beans -- yummy!!

Mmmm... Collards, Mustard Greens and Turnip Greens too... forgot about those, especially since I'm the only one at home that likes um.

Just had an idea for a great April Fool's joke, collard greens served to the kids at WDW LOL:rotfl:

Same here! We are in Texas though. Our evening meal always included cornbread or biscuits. For a quick snack, cold milk was poured over leftover crumbled cornbread. :lovestruc

It's just bread, albeit a bit crumbly in texture. You can eat it with anything that you would normally have bread with, except that it is not useful for making sandwiches.

Do be aware that there are huge regional arguments about the flavor of cornbread and any additives put into it. In some areas it is salty and may be flavored with bacon or jalapeno peppers. In other areas, it is somewhat sweetened and may include whole corn or even chopped green onion tops (my personal preference).

Yes, I know about the debate! My DH loves the Jalapeno addition but my SIL goes ballistic saying that is just plain wrong.

Any vegetable beef soup or stew just begs for cornbread.

Also, leftovers crumbled in abowl w/ buttermilk poured over -
Cornbread is also a staple for us- I love w/ hamhocks and pinto/soup beans- when we have a dinner ham- th eleftovers make a big pot of beans and cornbread
also cornbread is what we make our Thanksgiving dressing from- home made recipe- we mix bread crumbs and cornbread- we bake a huge pan of cornbread first and then let it cool a bit to mix up the rest of the ingredients and bake-
Also loooooove fried corn bread- some cabbage and ham or sausage (like a kielbasa) fried cabbage in bacon drippings or steamed-
Cornbread is great with any meal and it is usually best leftover- also great because it doesn't matter if it gets hard on the sides after sitting on the stove- best part is the crunchy...

I 2nd the Red Beans (pinto) over rice with cornbread....WE LOVE IT! I also chop onions up really fine and sprinke over the top of the beans. Cook the beans with a ham bone if you have it. our other favorite is cornbread dressing. Wow is my mouth watering.
