Family Gettogethers

You know - I've often considered doing any type of a vacation over the holidays (don't think we could afford Disney at the holidays) just to avoid getting together with my family.

My DH was just wondering after I read him the original post. He actually was wondering how much of the business at WDW over the holidays is due to people just wanting to avoid the family get togethers.

How we handle them is: My DH will keep my wine glass full, and he drives us home safeyl! ;) Anyway, the wine is cheaper than the trip.

no one bothers talking to me or my kids because I am a single mom and don't have much money...so I guess I'm not worth it!!!
Now, that is just wrong! Sounds like your relatives are a bunch of meanies! If I were one of your relatives, I would've talked to you!

I am tired of family gatherings as well. Have had them ALL weekend! Today is the last as Monday's a work day! This weekend, at the beach on Fri., then a grad party for my niece y'day and today a party at BIL's house. I am so tired of small talk and just long to read my book or go see a movie or just hang w/DH and DS!!! I feel like pulling the "I'm not feeling well" card to get out of today. But, I'll be a good in-law and attend.

So, I totally understand where you're coming from!!!

The Dh's siblings exclude people that they don't like~ meaning people that have married into the family. Me, and several others that have married into the family  can walk ino my MIl and FIL home and the siblings will not even speak to me or the others. I would wring my childrens necks if they ever treated anybody that way! So we just don't go anymore to family get togethers. I dont mind seeing the MIL and FIL, but the rest :sad2:

so funny...sounds like so many people are in a similar situation! Today, I am feeling better, I spent the day at the beach...myself and my DS & DD. Nice.
clh2...that's funny...I wonder if that's why Disney is so busy at the holidays!!! :rotfl2:
Thanks for the hugs and support!

I thought this said "ghettogathers"

I was like, yup, that's about what my family reunions are like :rotfl:

Mine too. We avoid them like the plague. ;)

Family get togethers are always hard. At times I would wish they would ignore me and not talk to me. Instead, they ask all sorts of personal info and constantly go on and on about me getting married. When am I getting married and how I better hurry because I'm not getting any younger and won't be able to have more kids. UGH!!!! I try to be nice and polite, but its soooo hard. I would much rather sometimes just sit there, sip my drink, watch them all, then hug and say my good byes.

Enjoy!!! Plan on huge crowds but it's still better than dealing with the nonsense that goes on with some families! A day in Disney is better than most anything, right???!!! :thumbsup2
