HI! I am looking for some family games to get for Christmas. I recently played Wits and Wagers with some friends and liked that one. Any other ideas?

It really depends on what you like and how into games you are.

My son (16) likes poker and gin - getting him to play a board game is pulling teeth. He's been this way since 12.

My daughter likes:

Smallworld
Munchkin
Pandemic
Resistance
Lords of Waterdeep
Sentinals of the Multiverse

She is, however, a serious gamer - like D&D and Call of Cthulu type of gamer.

We have younger kids, but a few we love are Quirkle Cubes, Blokus, and Make and Break. Ticket to Ride, King of Tokyo and Settlers of Catan are on my want list, but our kids aren't quite there yet...

Transamerica is a train game like Ticket to Ride but MUCH simpler. My daughter started playing that about seven. Its a track laying game, but without the color coding.

And the Caatan juggernaut has a game called Kids of Caatan that is appropriate as young as kindergarten.

Zombie Dice is great fun. Particularly if you go buy brains (erasers shaped like brains) to use as counters. You can keep score with pencil and paper, but lining up brains makes the game really fun.

Oh, and people should check out Wil Wheaton's YouTube show Tabletop - many of the games are far better for grown ups - but some of the games he pulls out are very family oriented.

(mum2simon, check out Tsuro - which is too hard for your little ones, but fine for your older ones).

And I suggest NOT playing Cards Against Humanity with your children - but if you have an offensive and obsence sense of humor and are looking for a game to play with grown ups - its Apples to Apples for those who think South Park is tame.

If your children are young we really like Eye Found It Disney. If they are a little older (and ya'll are pretty goofy) Quelf can be a lot of fun :)

Some I don't see mentioned yet...

We Didn't Playtest This at All
Fluxx
Castle Panic
...and I still like Cranium

My kids and I like Scene It and Apples to Apples. Of course, we especially like the Disney versions of each.

Card Games: Phase 10, Monopoly Deal, Uno

Board Games: Forbidden Island, Dicecapades, Munchkin, Word on the Street, Apples to Apples. Forbidden Island is really great because the whole family works together to win.

We also love Mexican Train Dominoes.

We do game nights a lot, either just our family or w/ hubby's brothers/sisters & their families or w/ friends. We like Pit, Spoons, Phase 10, Headbands, Farkle & if it's just my kids & hubby we play Rummy. We keep a notebook of all of our scores.

Growing up my family, extended family & parents friends would play Rook almost every Saturday night. I'd love to play that again but no one down here knows how.

If you love Wits and Wagers like I do (and love the quick, fun, group-oriented nature of the game), I'd recommend the following (as others have):
- Fluxx (any edition) - a quick card game where anyone can win at any time - it takes a minute to understand!
- Apples to Apples in each and every addition (to include Sour Apples)
- From North Star Games - Crappy Birthday/Happy Birthday (less replay with the same players, but good for 20-30 games for every group you play with:), or Say Anything
- Munchkin

So many great games mentioned! A couple I didn't see were Qbitz and line up, but we love mindware games. Many of the ones we play have been said already. We love family game night.

Our kids like to play the Disney version of Beat the Parents -- all about Disney movies. It's fun, especially when you get a wild card and have to do something like hula, or bark like Pongo, or waltz. Kids get a kick out of us doing those things!

Other games we play regularly: Uno (inc Disney Uno, which has an interesting twist from the original), Clue, Sorry, Disney Apples to Apples.
