Family Cabanas: Just Hype?

It seems like cruisers who aren't beach people really like the cabanas. I'm perfectly fine with a normal chair and would only even consider a cabana if we're doing a special family event, but even my parents are happy with the standard beach chairs.

We have booked a Mabrika Grand Family Cabin at Lookout Cay and have 17 people in our party. One is an infant. I am now reading the infant counts toward your number of 16 allowed. Does anyone know if Disney will make an exception? What do we do? No other cabins are available.
