Families of 5 --- what do you do???

it must just be illegal in the world of WDW :lmao: ... but, even that is screwy since 5 can stay in a standard room at the Dolphin & at Shades of Green, both on WDW property. It doesn't make sense. Nor does it make sense that a DVC 1BR can only (legally) accommodate 4 people, those are quite a bit larger than a hotel room.

What she said! I am sorry, but that whole line about it being a fire hazard is bunch of hoo-ha! If they can put a crib in any room without it being a fire hazard, then they should easily be able to put in a rollaway without it being a fire hazard. Why don't they? Because they would not make as much money. And to Disney, it's all about the money. JMHO.

We are running into this same problem trying to reserve for our spring vacation. Thanks to all for your help.

For the past 3 years me, my DW, DD2, nephew 2, BIL & SIL have stayed at SOG & AKL. With queen-sized beds, each family had a bed and slept comfortable. With a family of 5, i can see DH and DW using 1 queen size bed and the 3 other kids using the other bed, depending on age/size of kids. This way, there wouldn't be a need for 2 separate rooms and the cost would be cheaper. Just a thought.

That is most likely part of the reason.
I read that the AB section of POR was designed and built to sleep 5 persons.

The Mansions and the other mods were designed to sleep 4.

But I have heard tale of them allowing a roll away in the mansions if the trundle rooms are all booked up. One of my very best friends had one just this past April. So, I'm really not buying the fire code answer, either. It's about the all mighty $$$$$$$$$. Isn't it always??? Disney is a business and they have a bottom line to think of, I can respect that. I just wish they'd see the chance to make more $$$$$ in offering larger families more value priced lodging options. Larger families could stay onsite, or stay longer, thus spend more money on food, tickets, gifts, yadda, yadda, yadda.

They seem to be getting better about it, though. The ASMu suites are a huge step in the right direction.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we are going with Windsor Hills- an off-site townhouse rental.
for 7 nights in Feb. we can get a 3 bedroom, 3 bath townhouse with it's own pool for $812 ($116 a night)
since we rent a car anyway, and will be visting seaworld for the 1st time....I'm thinking this is it :goodvibes
and I'm actually okay with that

The child under three in a pac-n-play is not added toward the #of persons allowed in the building to evacate the building safely.---Not because the child under 3 is not concidereda person, but because the fire marshals assume the child will be carried to safety and will not take up hallway and stairway floor space during an evacuation.

Yes, Disney does have a few roll aways at the resorts but they have a very limited amount. It still comes down to the total number of persons in a building when determining the fire code in regard to fire access and egress.

I agree that the Family Suites are a good step in offering families another option.

To those of you thinking about booking offsite.....

Offsite is another good option.
We booked DTD a few times when our children were younger. The Double Tree Suites or 2 rooms at DTD hotel were a lot less than two rooms on property.

Now there are many condos and houses to choose from offsite also.

Of course Disney did not have POR AB section, DVC or the Family Suites when my children were young so remember Disney is starting to offer larger families more options.

Have fun planning your next Disney vacation!:wizard:
