Have you ever looked a word long enough that you swear its spelled wrong even though you *know* it is right?

I'm in the process of writing my review of literature for my senior project on the crystallation of chocolate. I keep staring at the word 'milk' and thinking how odd of a word it is.

Maybe I've just been writing too much in the past 2 days.

Yep, I did this the other day with the word stradegy - I swear it still doesn't look right to me.

As far as odd words, I think the word Yam is odd.

Good luck on your project.

do you mean Strategy?

This happens to me all the time when I'm tutoring reading with kids. I felt so stupid until I mentioned it once to one of the teachers. She just laughed and said they all go through it.

I tell you some kids can be so convinced that they are spelling a word right that they can convince me.:lmao:

I have no idea why but I always look at the word FROG and think the same thing.
What an odd little word that is. Does not seem right to me.

yay, at least I'm not the only one with these thoughts.

I was helping DD with her homework the other day and I told her lizard was spelled with 2 z's: lizzard - that looks right, doesn't it? It wasn't until we went to the bookstore later that evening and I saw a big sign with 'LIZARD' written on it that I realized I was wrong. Even now, I look at it and I think it should be lizzard. Also, I always want to spell congratulations with a 'D'. I'm usually a good speller though (despite prolific typos in my posts), it's just certain words trip me up.

This happened to me when I wrote the word "people". I thought it looked like pee-op-le. I had to use my dictionary to check.

I get completely hung up on the word "criticize." I remember I used to also have trouble with "kept," I say kept, I know it's kept, but I want to write keeped.

Some words that look adn sound funny the longer you stare at them:

Scuba
Emergency
Ambulance
Antidisestablishmentarianism
Floccinaucinihilipilification

To this day if I have to spell the word "Friendly", I have to sing the jingle to the commercial for Friendly's restaurant (where spelling the word was part of the song).

One time I forgot how to spell "was" and "who" for about 10 minutes. I kept insisting it was "wuz" and "ho". I was in college at the time.

Oh man, for some reason that really made me choke!

Mine are accessory (is that right?) and height. When I am tired I get hung up on the toos, too. (two, to, too).

You have to wonder why lizard is one z while blizzard has 2 and gizzard has 2.:confused3

"Tomorrow" always stumps me.

Also, and this is embarrassing, sometimes I forget what to do at traffic signals. You know, I'll find myself stopping on green or going on red. That is SOOO dangerous I always yell at myself afterward. :guilty:
