Faking Your Birthday??

Disney's policy is, they don't care if it isn't your actual birthday. There is nothing 'scamming' about getting a birthday button, and it does not mean you will get some freebie or any extra attention from the CM's. You might, you might not.

Disney celebrated their 'birthday' every day for 15 months and no one seemed bothered by that. It takes nothing away from anyone else in the park if a child (or adult, for that matter) chooses to 'celebrate' during their Disney stay. Maybe they couldn't go on the 'real' day. Heaven forbid we can't celebrate special times in our lives unless it's the 'real day'. Imagine how many split-custody parents would miss holidays with their children if everyone around them policed their desire to celebrate on an alternate day. Sheesh! For that matter, what about people who visit one set of grandparents on Christmas Eve and the other set on Christmas Day. Better not open those presents with the first set of grandparents since it's not really Christmas yet! No siree!!

I never understood why anyone cares what someone else is doing, when it doesn't break any Disney rules, Disney doesn't care, and it takes nothing away from your experience if some kid wears a button that essentially gives him a happy feeling and nothing more.

My thoughts exactly!

The other day I was at the mall when I heard these two women talking about how one of the women's son faked his birthday on their last trip to Disneyworld in order to get more attention from the Cast Members! How Terrible, and these two women were actually saying how smart and creative this was!

I had always thought that in order for you to get a Birthday Button you had to prove that it was actually your birthday.

Has anyone else ever heard about people faking their own Birthday? What do you think about this?

 :( :worried:
No you don't have to prove your birthday or anniversary in order to get a pin. Disney understands that very few people could actually attend on there "real" birthdays so they allow the day you pick to be your birthday. Just for the record it is fun for grown ups too.

This topic comes up every once in a while
I wouldn't do it, doesn't seem right to me
At some point Disney might as well just give you a birthday button with your ticket, since everyone has a birthday.

Well, I wore a button and it was NOT my actual day but it WAS my Birthday trip. And I actually did not wear it the entire trip.

There is a simple test to see if it's ok to wear a "It's my Birthday" pin. Look at the calendar...does todays date match your birthday? If so then it's your birthday congrats!! Otherwise it's not your birthday and to claim it is is a lie.

Disney used to do special things for peoples birthdays but I believe too many people started lying about their birthdays and Disney had to stop giving out freebies because of the people that abuse the system. So saying that it's your birthday when it's not has hurt the people who are actually at WDW on their birthday.

good grief, does the rest of the world only celebrate, go out to eat, have cake or whatever it is you do only on the ACTUAL day?

We travel to WDW many times a year and in Feb and Oct ESPECIALLY FOR MY DD'S BIRTHDAY'S. If and when asked if today is the day we always say what the actual date is.

Meh, I see nothing wrong with saying it's your birthday if it is part of the reason you went to WDW - to celebrate. It's obvious (as someone else has already posted), they don't care at WDW about celebrating on the actual date given Disney celebrated for over a year for one special birthday anniversary.

Our trip in May is to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Is it the actual date of our anniversary? Nope. We can't travel on that date due to the DH's vacation time. But I can guarantee you, we will be telling people it's our anniversary when we are at WDW because that is why we are going - to celebrate that day. Does that make us liars? I don't think so.

I agree, when I haven't been there for the exact date of my dd's b'day, I make sure and let them know that we're celebrating her birthday while we're there. They gladly give the birthday buttons and whatever else they might choose to do. I also let them know when they've asked me in the past on occasion if anyone is celebrating anything special when making ADR's, and they note that, too. They do know, though, that we're doing an early/late celebration of the event. If everyone that goes wants to celebrate then I say go for it! If Disney sees this as a problem then they will start asking for proof of your birthday.

and quite frankly....the amount of money spent on the specialty cakes and the TS restaurants we dine in to celebrate..I am sure WDW doesn't mind we chose to celebrate there rather than at Chuck E Cheese.....

According to so many people, if we want to celebrate an occasion we should almost have to have proof of it, so make sure to bring your DL or birth certificate for you or your children, marriage certificate for any of you who plan on telling WDW you're celebrating an anniversary, or your diploma if graduating from high school/college, etc.......................;) :lmao: :rotfl:

My Birthday is 12th August - there is no way on Gods earth I could go to Florida in August - far to hot and humid for my pale skin and very fair hair! So when I went in November 2005 I 'celebrated' my 40th birthday on 12th November. We went the whole hog - buttons, baloons, cake etc - even a Wishes Cruise to finish off the evening! :woohoo: My DH had asked me what I wanted for my 'big' birthday - and I'd said a trip to WDW - and THIS was my birthday present. Did I feel guilty - did I heck! On my 'actual' birthday we went out for a quiet family meal so this trip was in lieu of a big party back in the August! I honestly can't see the problem! :confused3

I think that it's okay if the birthday is in about a week or so.

YAY!!! Birthday buttons for everyone!!! :cheer2:

Finally, we can all relax. We've found common ground, and that's a GOOD thing.

On that happy note, let's call it a day and move on to something more important than a silly birthday button. Everyone has their own idea of what works for their family and the beauty of it is, we each get to make that decision, with Disney's 'blessing'. :thumbsup2
