I was wondering if Disney does fake wedding cakes. We would have a slice of cake, and act like we are cutting the cake, but have sheet cakes already cut up in the back to serve the guests. That way we can keep the cake as decoration. Has anyone done that before and does Disney do it?

One of my husband's friends did that, but their wedding was in Newport, R.I. The cake was like a sandcastle and the sheetcake was I think vanilla w/strawberries...really good! :)

i dont know about them having the cake pre-cut and a complete faux cake but disney does faux tiers and then you can have one or two tiers be the cake you actually cut and distribute

Hum... that must have changed then. When we got married (2007) I asked about a "faux cake" tier and was told no, they don't do that and that the expense is in the decorating anyway, so you would actually spend more to have the sheet cakes than real cake. But they were adamant at that time about not doing "fake" cake.

This is true. The concept of reducing cost by using a faux cake would work if Disney maintained a stock of faux wedding cakes, and offered a few limited design choices. Most brides have a certain look in mind for their wedding cake, so this would not be a feasible option.

Custom making a faux cake is as time consuming as making a real cake. The food cost of a real cake is only a fraction of the cost involved, most of the cost is in the labor needed to achieve the look a bride is requesting.

To reduce costs with your wedding cake, order a smaller version, make the design simple, have it seperated with pillars for some height, and order undecorated sheet cakes for most of your servings.:thumbsup2
