Fake Ebay Peter Pan???

I bought a Peter Pan 2-Disc Platinum Edition on Ebay and I am 90% sure it is a fake. Can someone that owns the real deal help me out?

My suspicions were aroused when it did not contain a Movie Reward Code as advertised on the packaging.

The case is not the typical Disney 2-disc case - the one disc in the back and a disc insert that flips in the middle - one disc is in the front, one in the back.

The discs themselves do not have the scratches/etchings and numbers as found on all my other Disney DVD - these simply have "DVD Video and 060" and "DVD Video and 160."

I have not seen, other then a photo I found on Google, an actual copy of this movie. However, the art on the discs look muted and blurred - it is not crisp, if you know what I mean.

Also, when I play it with Windows Media it comes up as "Unknown" the Disney movies I tried came up with the actual name of the movie.

After I looked at what the seller had up, I realized it was a lot of "in the vault" Disney movies. Yes, I know, I should have looked first - but (s)he had 100% positive feedback. So, am I crazy? Or the only one that cared?

Anyone with a copy that can tell me what the case and disc look like? Or know anyway to tell for sure real from fake? THANKS!

don't have the cd but what do you mean by "in the vault" If the seller sold this to you as authentic Disney cd, Just use MY MESSAGES to email him and ask him point blank if this was an original, authentic Disney CD. As an aside, one should ALWAYS ask all questions before bidding.
He can be in HUGE trouble for selling fakes, Disney or otherwise, maybe its a second?

I had this happen when buying a DVD on ebay..the person had 100% positive feedback.

I disputed the charge via Paypal and gave a reason of something like Bootleg Copy. Don't remember the wording they used, but it was in their list of reasons. The person refunded my money plus shipping immediately, asking me not to leave them a negative on Ebay. That's how they kept their perfect score. That was back when they could leave me a Neg, so I didn't leave any feedback for them.

The majority of DVDs and CDs you buy on ebay are fakes/counterfeits/reproductions. This has been happening on ebay for years and it will continue to happen for years.

There's really not much you can do about it except to email the seller BEFORE you place a bid and ask if it's an authentic DVD or a repro.

Complaining to ebay won't help.... they're not going to do anything about it.

I have the product right here in my hand. The artwork is clear on ours, and it does have the insert that flips that holds Disc 1. Ours has the Movie Rewards Code as well.

I would email the seller and ask about your dvd first. You can file a dispute with Paypal and try to get your money back if it turns out to be an illegal copy or they don't respond.

Then just be very careful in the future when buying dvd's. Look at the pics, especially pics of the actual dvd's. Be wary of "new, sealed copies" of vault movies and items from overseas. Your best bet is to try to get a used copy that is the real thing. Email the seller and ask-a seller with a genuine copy will not be offended.

I have been in e-mail communication with the seller for over a week. (S)He states that "the supplier" says it is real. Actually "not a fack" is what was said.

As for asking a question - I would have got the same response - who is going to tell a potential bidder - "Yeah, these are really good bootlegs, bid away." The item was presented as a legitimate, unopened copy Of Peter Pan and the photo was of the Disney movie.

So, before I dispute - anyone with the movie that can back up my discrepancies as listed in my OP?

You can tell if it's an orginal if it has diffeent numbers in the center of the dvd (the clear part)

also,

someone said ebay dosent do anything about it. yes, they do. this has happened to me with the Lion King DVD. I told the seller and he didn't respond. I then sent a dispute and got my money back from ebay. The seller also told me not to leave him negative feedback but he/she was crazy. OF COURSE i was going to leave bad feedback! that way this dosent happen to anyone who thinks he/she is selling an orginal

I have my copy, which I bought at a store and should be real. It does have the insert for the first disc and also had a Disney Movie Rewards code. On the back of Disc 1, it says (315223), then PPS-ON-NW 1.1 then 07 in smaller numbers. The second line is (315222) PPS-ON-NW 1.1 08. There is also a number in the center (next to the hole) that says 1FP1 KK3B.

The artwork on ours does look kind of blurry though, like it is a foggy scene. The letters are crisp, but the pictures are muted.

The letters on the second disc are almost the same - it says 2.1 instead of 1.1.

There is what appears to be a bar code on both discs.

The back of the discs do not have anything....they're as clear/smooth as glass, except for the back of the very middle, around the little circle. Around the little circle are a bunch of serial number type etchings that are so small I can barely read them. And we bought ours at The Disney Store.

Thank you!!! Everyone of my Disney DVD (yes, I looked at all 20+) have the numbers and little etchings. I figured that was the main point in disputing the authenticity of the DVD.

I'm just chiming in that I've been able to buy some of the "vaulted" DVDs from CVS. They had Peter Pan & the 2nd one.... I think they're supposed to send them back but didn't. I also bought a Little Mermaid after Allie scratched her copy. They run around $24.99.. Try looking there if you want to replace it

Just FYI - Disney has a replacement program for scratched DVDs. For $6.95 and shipping costs for the scratched DVD (you have to send all the discs, in case), they will send you a new one if they have it. I was able to replace our Cinderella after it had gone back into the vault.

I have gotten fakes a couple of times that the seller honestly didn't know were fakes, of course i have many more times got fakes that the seller knew full well were bootlegs... oh i will never forget the nintendo game i got one time (a gba game) that said ninfendo on it... or the ipod that sad ASSambiled instead of assembled and yes *** was in capitals... ah counterfiters

Wanted the OP to know that my copy is almost identical to yours.

Innermost inner circle= IFPI KK5D

Outermost inner circle=One side has (315223) PPS-ON-NW1.1 03 with the bar code under the numbers //// The other side has (315222) PPS-ON-NW1.1 07 and the bar code is above the numbers

If you read through this, granted this is old info, but a lot of it still should hold true. I know I can take a blank disc and find out where it was manufactured, the type of dye used, size, etc. I cannot do this for copyrighted dvds, but I can see if it has copyright on it (this using a program I have, not familiar with WMP).

I wonder if someone with the copy of PP could explore it and see if there is disc info available. I am looking at a copy of Dinosaur and when I explore there are various other files listed, one being a read me text file that gives a lot of information.

Thank you for this - I'm going to try and "read" the files - just for fun. The disc itself looks like my legitimate Disney DVD except for the lack of numbers around the inside. And it it appears the cover would not peel off.
