Do you guys think this is for real? If it isn't - people aren't kidding - they do look for real. I've reported it to ebay, but just curious if this looks like a fraudulent one that any of you have seen before.

It's a fake. Ebay or any reputable company would never request a credit card number or other personal info that way. That's not how online businesses work. They can investigate issues without asking for info from you like this. Very common scam involving all kinds of accounts. They send out a lot of them and hope they hit on people who actually have accounts with the particular company. I've gotten ones from "earthlink" and the account we have isn't in my name.

Fake. The scammers and hackers are busy this weekend. I got a similar email from Washington Mutual Investments. Looks very authentic, except...I've never done business with them, and there was a spelling error.

A game website I mod was severly hacked today. The webmaster is working on it, but it will take awhile. Evidently this "group" hacked like 2000 websites this month. I just don't see the "fun" that people get from hacking...of course, there are financial rewards to getting ID numbers from ebay and financial websites.

NEVER give any info in response to an email. If it is a company you do business with, CALL THEM personally (phone numbers are on the back of your credit cards) . NEVER follow the links in the emails, they go to dataminers.

Good thing my computer has been acting up - it's driving me crazy, but I guess it saved me in this circumstance. Lately when I try to click a link from my email, outlook express won't let me and actually locks up. Drives me nuts - but in this instance, I'm glad it did it. As soon as I clicked it, I thought, "Uh Oh!! Don't think I should have done that." And then, luckily, outlook express pulled its trick and locked up on me. Thank God!!!

What are dataminers? What if I had of clicked the link but then didn't give them personal info, would it have tracked it anyway?

It depends on how sophicated the scammer is. They could simply want you to enter the info and send to them, or a dataminer could set a cookie to track your usage and internet site visits for marketing, or it could get your email address and add you to a spam list. :(

Thanks Chuck - poor guys, the only thing they would track on my computer are Disney related sights!! :D
