We are set to go to WDW in October (18th-25th, 2 adults). We were also preparing to purchase AP's for the trip -- not because of the room discounts but because we want to return to WDW within the year. Here's our problem. We got a quote for the Fairytale Pkg and it would cost us approx. $100 more than what we are paying for the room only (CBR) right now. A great deal but....

Looking at the room discounts for ap holders we figure that it would only cost us $200 or so more than the fairytale pkg if we got the room discount and bought the ap's. If there weren't any ap discounts then it would cost us about $700 more than the fairytale pkg or basically the cost of the ap's. We are going to buy ap's eventually. We just can't decide whether to buy them for the trip in October or go with the fairytale pkg and buy them for the next trip afterwards which will probably be in the spring of 2004.

I realize that ap room discounts aren't a given and I can't expect them but I would hate to change our reservations to the fairytale pkg and then they come out with ap discounts which would give us the room and the passes for only slightly more.

What would others do? Get the pkg or wait and hope for ap room discounts.

i have considered buying ap's for the family, but we just never have really planned to go more than once a year. the FT package works out great for us, because we usually go for a week in august. i think it is a deal that you cannot pass up. DW has always wanted to stay in CR tower room, to remind her of her childhood, but i said we would never be able to afford it even if they had the 30-40% discounts that usually show up. so, we got that for much less than we planned. also, you can 'activate' your ap anythime. i think the only people who FT doesn't make sense for is current ap holders.

Will you be going back within a year of your 2004 trip?

If so, then it seems to me that it would make sense to use the FT package now, then get AP's for the spring trip and use them again on a trip within the year.

Even if you weren't going back within a year of the spring trip, I would find it really hard to pass the FT package up. It's a guaranteed savings and there's no way to know what discounts might or might not come up in the future.

I say take the bird in the hand and worry about what to do about the next trip when the time comes!

Besides, you can always change your reservations if an AP discount comes out that works better for you!
