Fairy Photos

Hi, I have seen some services on the internet where you email them your photo and they turn it into a fairy/fairytale portrait (such as a pretty background and adding wings etc). Is there a photo software where you can do that on your own? If so, any suggestions or tips?

I did a couple last summer of my dd. They're nothing super fantastic, but I did them in photoshop. (FWIW, I have cs2.) Actually, now that I look at them again, that's some pretty sloppy ps work, but I was just playing around. The fairy dust was made using brushes from obsidian dawn. I know there are wings brushes out there too.

The pretty look isn't my style though, so this is what I went up going with and ordering a 16x20 canvas of. (And I love it!) (The one on the right. I just happened to have a before/after example already in my photobucket.)

How did you get the picture so much brighter? I'm constantly playing with contrast, as well as levels and just can't figure it out.
