Fairy Godmothers/babysitters?

We'll be going for the first time in April. My DH and I were contemplating getting a babysitter for our DD1 just in case we wanted to be alone. Now we know all about Kids Nite Out and Fairy Godmothers, but it seems like they want us to book a sitter at least 2-3 weeks ahead of time .....We don't even know if we'll want one or even when we'll need one if we do! What I want to know is.....are you able to book a sitter on the actual day you need one once your there? Or will they give you hassle for that?

You'll have better luck with Kids Nite Out with this...but still, it will be subject to availability. Most of the sitters have other jobs...and lives...and won't necessarily be sitting around to be called.

Ok I am clueless...what is Kids Nite Out and Fairy God Mothers?

When we went last year it was during a slow time, beginning of May. When I called, I was trying to decide which day I wanted and the lady said she would just put us down for the whole week and we could call when we got there to let them know what day. After our first day at the world it became clear to us that we would not have the energy for a night out so I called them to let them know we would need a babysitter and she told me to call back if I changed my mind and they would come. So I guess it could depend on how crowded it is when you go, but for me Fairy Godmother's seemed very flexible.

When they put you down for a whole week, do they charge you a penalty fee for the days you cancel or don't use, or was that just a complimentary thing that they did?
Do you think they would do that for me if I were to ask?

They didn't charge me anything, I was getting ready to tell them a date and I must of hesitated to think about it and they said they would just mark it that it would be sometime in that week and to let them know when we got down there. The lady that runs it was a little gruff sounding on the phone, but was nice as could be.
