Fairview Mall Scarborough Disney store closing

The new "Imagination Park" stores will be in MANY areas and not just Square One. In the coming years, all the stores will be renovated but it can't happen all at once. It is an expensive reno and with new stores opening too, there is only so much cap room. Many of the stores that will be opening, will probably be in areas where there used to be a store (Ie. Ottawa etc.) but unlike other retailers they will not be opening 5-10 a year, as they are a specialty retailer and do not want to oversaturate the market.

I hope this helps, I understand the frustrations and I hope that everyone will give the Disney Store time. They hear you, and are working diligently to make things better but just like most things in life, change doesn't happen overnight and unfortunately they wont be able to please everyone.

I hope that everyone will come and see Square One once it is renovated to see what is in-store for them in the coming month/years. We are all really excited to bring this amazing store into Ontario.

How do you know this? Do you work for Disney stores?

i have the same complaint. Shipping is ridiculous and the stores we have sell generic garbage. Going to 3 malls only to find a lackluster selection of items is disappointing. May be time for a facebook page. Disney please start showing canadians a bit more love. No disney visa, no cheap shipping, out of date pricing at the stores...it's getting ridiculous.

ditto!

While you have obviously "drunk the corporate Koolaid" and are doing your best to smooth over the horrific treatment that Canadian Disney customers are being dealt, we the customers obviously do not see or feel your entheusiasm.

Wait 5 years and it will be better? My kids are 10, 7 and 7. They were heartbroken when the Scarborough Town Centre closed, and now Fairview Mall? I repeat, Square One is NOT A FREAKING OPTION for me, and I assume a lot of others in Toronto. My Disney purchasing will lower dramatically in 5 years time from todays demand, with the Disney channel being my children's #1 channel on television, and the only place I can buy things now is either downtown (1 hour trip minimum) or wait until we arrive at WDW.

One store in all of Toronto? Really? These decisions were obviously made by bean counters in California trying to please stock holders, and not by anyone that has ever actually stepped into a Disney Store or tried buying anything online from within Canada. What about giving Canadians free shipping for disneystore.com, now that we have little or no options otherwise?

Talk is cheap, we want results and want to feel listened to and to be treated as valuable a customer as our US counterparts.

or how about make a Canadian version of the Disney store web site ie Disneystore.ca

Back in the day ( 1993 ish) there used to be a Disney store canadian catalouge. It was run via regal gifts. Hmmm niether of them exist anymore.

With these stores being such a neiche market, I can understand why they would close certain locations. Really, the rent isnt cheap in those malls. Eaton's Centre was were the first location was and when I worked for TDS made a lot of $$ as did Sq 1 and Limeridge.
I was in Limeridge last week, all new costumes on the cast and new registers. Companies that are closing stores, would not spend the $$ to upgrade a POS system just to pull it out of a store.
Sq. 1 is a incredibly busy mall. The malls that they are staying in draw crowds from all over . Landmark malls, like Eaton's Centre, Sq 1 and Vaughan Mills. They are going to put the stores where the money and the most traffic are.
Retail stores always look at last years numbers and trying to beat the sales from the year before. When new stores open, or stores get renovated those stores usually incure a loss that year. Due to the costs of training etc and the reno's. If your company was going to remodel a store that would draw traffic, and you needed to save money, wouldnt you close the store that's underachieving.
When it comes down to it, its a buisness in a economy that's not recovering as fast as we all hoped. Im just happy they didnt pull all the stores out of Canada all together.

Im pretty sure there is a go bus from Yorkdale that takes you there. for those who dont drive. Its a pretty good mall, the 905 isnt all that horrible.

According to the Fairview Mall manager, they did their best year ever, and ranked third in all of Canada with respect to sales.

Go bus to go shopping? NOT!!! That would probably cost me $30 each way. Why should I go out of my way to patronize a store that so obviously doesn't want my business? It has nothing to do with my feelings towards 905ers, it's more my feeling that Disney treats Canadians like an afterthought.

I too was an Opening Team Cast Member but at the Scarborough Town Centre Store. While it is sad to see all of these stores closing I can't say I am surprised. The stores are nothing like they were in the 90's. The merchandise that is sold there today is humdrum and can be found in almost any retailer. They need to get back to Store exclusive merchandise. I'd also like to see them bring back the collectible merchandise, watches, cells etc. Even the clothing that is sold there today is nothing like in the 90's...back then everything was embroidered not silk screened...they had silk ties and leather jackets...NICE STUFF.

****AH THE GOOD OL' DAYS!!!!!*********

And I was one of the people that bought all this stuff. Are you listening Disney??

I was there last week and found out they were closing dec 28th.

I'm wondering how is the stock? I really don't want to go near the mall this week and I'm hoping they might have t-shirts left.

any help on what stock they have or if they might close earlier.

Thanks.:goodvibes

It really sucks they are closing :confused3

If you want Disney t-shirts, Walmart has a lot of really nice ones. Walmart seems to be the only place I can get Disney stuff now.

Thanks. I'll take a look. I don't remember ever seeing them there and I shop at Wal-mart all the time!!! LOL

Oh, the horror :scared1: - Torontonians down to two stores! As a Manitoban, we lost our one store last March. Closest store for us is in Minneapolis (8-10 hour drive over the border). As I understand the closing schedule, they were simply running out current leases and then cherry picking which locations they would keep and renovate for the new style of store. I do hope you don't lose anymore stores as I do travel to Toronto for work on occasion and having a choice of two stores will be nice!

Hang in there fellow Canucks! Hopefully Disney will see the light and start expanding a bit into Canada again.

Let's not get snarky, considering Toronto has 3 times the population of Manitoba. The problem is with Disney, let's not pick on Toronto.

Thanks for reminding me (though I don't think the math is right) - I am now properly chastened. ;)

Like I said before, hopefully Disney will start expanding again soon in Canada (including Toronto!).

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Wow, I never knew the numbers. For fun, I "googled" the info ...

Province of Manitoba population (2006 census): 1.1 million
Greater Toronto Area (2006 census): 5.1 million
city of Toronto proper (2006 census): 2.5 million
Province of Ontario population (2006 census): 31.6 million

So both previous posters are correct ... Toronto proper is only 1 and a half times greater than the province of Manitoba ... but Toronto with suburbs is much more, almost 5 times greater.

We definitely need more stores! :rotfl:
