Fairies, Fireworks, Family - and Palaver Stew!! A Sep 09 TR

I survived the weekend!! :cool1:

The Imagination Movers ... Trans Siberian Orchestra ... and leaves! leaves!! leaves!!!

The Imagination Movers were a lot of fun and the DD loved them ... The guys actually played their instruments and sang/talked and didn't simply lip-sync to a pre-processed "script" ... Lots of interaction with the audience - the DD gave Mover Rich a high-five (btw - did you know those guys have 11 kids between them - including Rich with 5!!) ... Warehouse Mouse made an appearence (but sorry guys - no Nina ...) and there were some "inside" jokes for us older kids, too ...

Unfortunately, the DW forgot to bring her camera - which I thought was a physical impossibility ... so no pictures ...

The DD did manage to use her i-Phone to take some pictures of TSO, so I'll report on that a bit once she downloads them ...

Next up in two weeks: The Princess and the Frog in NYC ...

Almost done with Day 2-Part 2 ...

I'm baaaaack!! (finally ...)

Here it is: Day 2 - Part 2 ...

So it was time to move on to the World Showcase - and Mexico – where we arrived at 10:59 … I think both Delani and Alana had visiting Mexico on their “priority list”, and Danielle likes the Gran Fiesta Tour …So even though we had spent an hour-and-a-half in Mexico last December (while it poured gatos and perros outside …), we were back for another visit.

We started with the Gran Fiesta Tour, and even Delani must have liked it because she was snapping pictures left and right!!

After that: Shopping!! Delani and Alana decide they wanted a pin from each country – among other things …

IMG_0096.jpg

So while the four older girls went shopping, Danielle and I went searching for the Kidcot station …

Which had moved!!

There has been a bunch of modifications to the inside of the Mexico pavilion since December 2008. The Mexican house, etc. es no mas, and has been replaced by more shops, and there are a few other changes, too …

Danielle started working on her Kidcot mask … and I kept my eye on the time, cuz we had an ADR for lunch at Akershus

After about 20 minutes I rounded everyone up and we headed outside, to find Mariachi Cobre playing …

But it was starting to get hot and muggy … so we moved on to Norway after a few minutes.

And into the cool and refreshing (A/C!!) Viking Exhibit in the Stave Church. The girls actually found the Stave Church exhibits interesting, and we spent a good 10 minutes in the little museum checking them out. And Vicki and I took turns teasing Delani and Alana about which one of the Vikings were “their type” … So I think some of their (in particular, Delani’s) protestations about being bored were just part of their tweenager “act” …

We walked onto Maelstrom … And the girls wanted to shop immediately after exiting (conveniently into a shop… of course!) But we needed to check-in at Akershus, so we dragged them kicking and screaming (well – moaning and groaning …) over to the restaurant. With a promise they could shop after lunch …

We checked in and Vicki took Danielle to the Ladies Room to change into her “princess-greeting costume”: Rosetta! And about 5 minutes later we were called to our seats – with a visit with Princess Belle to start things off …

Lunch at Akershus was wonderful – great food: a cold buffet with meats/cheeses/salmon/asparagus/salads/etc., salmon burgers, vegetable stuffed pasta, and Mickey-shaped ravioli (which Delani ordered and got a major kick out of …!):

IMG_0111.jpg

That’s it for the food porn this trip …

And, let us not forget – Princesses!! Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White

IMG_0101a.jpg

IMG_0103a.jpg

IMG_0104.jpg

– and Ariel!!

IMG_0107.jpg

Meeting Ariel was another first for us – and with legs, too!! – so that was extra special … (It’s kinda sad when she still has fins, flopping around on the floor like that …)

And as you may have noticed, Ariel is signing something other than a book – it’s a t-shirt with all of the Princesses on it … So after our lunch at Akershus, the only Princess that hadn’t signed the shirt was Jasmine … an omission that would soon be remedied …

Lunch ended with dessert – and the girls went crazy when our waitress placed two (yes – two!!) family-style dessert trays on our table, each with a heaping serving of hot apple cobbler, rice cream with strawberries, and … CHOCOLATE MOUSE!!!

While the three girls and Vicki fought over the chocolate mouse, I dived into the very good apple-crisp/cobbler, and my Mom helped herself to the rice cream with strawberries.

Sorry there’s no dessert food porn, but I only had about 3 seconds before the spoons started flying …

Needless to say we all left Akershus with smiles on our faces and happy tummies …

And then, as the adults promised, the girls did some Shopping in Norway for a bit …

Our original plan was to head back to AKL after lunch, to rest and get ready for the evening back at Epcot. Plus, we would minimize the amount of walking for my Mom and Vicki …

But the girls wanted to do the Kim Possible Adventure Game … And Mom said go ahead, even though she was starting to flag … So we strolled up to the game cart, Delani handed over her MYW pass, and we got our Kim Possible “ticket” - with a reporting time of 2:00 at Italy (which Delani wanted to visit anyway …) … so we had about an hour to stroll over there …

[A short digression: Danielle had started collecting the Toddler Princess pins last December, and she was on a mission to complete the set this trip! At some point this morning – I forget when/where (maybe when meeting Daisy?) – Danielle traded a CM for the Toddler Princess Jasmine pin – now she only needed Ariel to complete her collection … So she was constantly on the lookout for CMs with pins … ]

Walking to Italy we found Mulan literally waiting for us outside China:

IMG_0112.jpg

Image032.jpg

Image044.jpg

Danielle wanted to go in “Mulan’s Palace” at China – but Delani didn’t (tweenagers!!) – so Danielle changed her mind …

We checked out the trains by Germany … (dodging the shoppes …)

… and the African Trading Outpost (where the girls spent a few minutes shopping – but not buying …)

We only needed Jasmine’s signature on Danielle’s t-shirt to have all of the Princesses – so we decided to go for it and head over to Morocco … one of Vicki’s and my favorite countries.

By America we caught a bit of the fife and drum corps …(with a short stop at one of the outside kiosks for some shopping – and buying this time, I think …) … and then …

At Morocco we had a 15 minute wait for Jasmine to appear at the outside meet-n-greet area, so we visited the Gallery of Arts (A/C!!). And like with the Vikings, the girls really got into the exhibits (mostly jewelry – so that was no surprise!!)

My Mom decided to wait inside the Gallery (and the A/C!! – the heat, the walking, and the big lunch were taking their toll …) while we went outside. While waiting, Vicki chatted with a couple of off-duty CMs for about 5 minutes - when an “on-duty” CM came and told us that they had changed to location to an inside area (it was hot!!) He then proceeded to escort us back and into Morocco - and to the front of the line for Jasmine and Aladdin!!

It was then time to shuffle (literally – it was hot!!) off to Italy to start the Kim Possible Game –

- but first, Danielle go hold of her Mom’s camera and took a self-portrait …

IMG_0120.jpg

… kind of … (well – of her ear!!)

Fortunately, the game sent us back to Germany, so we didn’t have to roam all over the World (by this point, my Mom was in no condition for that – and Vicki’s knee was starting to bother her) …

The Kim Possible game was fun and interesting, but it was tough to share one communicator with 3 kids (make that 4 kids ..  )

And at that point everyone was bushed (I couldn’t even get the girls to go into Mouse Gear!!) so we headed back to AKL.

Unfortunately, tired and not really paying attention, we got off at Kidani Village (we thought something looked different!) … But it was only a (hot!) 5 minute walk back to Jambo House – where we arrived about 3:30.

And where we’ll pick things up in Day 2 – Part 3!!

Wow, I was sweating just reading about your trip around World Showcase. The shirt for autographs is a really good idea; I may copy that next time we take the kids!

Now that I have your attention ...

We (briefly) interrupt this TR for another TR ...!!!

A day (and evening) trip to NYC to see a special showing of "The Princess and the Frog" ... followed by "The Ultimate Disney Experience" (well - that's what it was called ... a bit of advertising hyperbole ...)

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your POV ...) we live close to NYC (well, 2.5 hours from our door to Penn Station ...). So when we got the e-mail announcing the special preview showing of "The Princess and the Frog" - to be followed by "The Ultimate Disney Experience" - we had to jump on it ...

Which found us this past Saturday taking the train into NYC on a cold and rainy - and just miserable day ...

Fortunately, the subway stopped only about two blocks from the theatre:

IMG_0798.jpg

Unfortunately, we didn't have time for lunch ... So after checking in, getting our wristbands, and going through security (and handing over our portable DVD player and digital camera for safekeeping) - I hustled back outside into the rain and grabbed some hot dogs from a street cart ...

The theatre was wonderful and we had great seats, smack dab in the center ... And the movie?

Four stars and 6 thumps up from the DW, DD, and myself!!

Great animation, a wonderful story, music you can't help but bopping to, and lots of fun stuff, too!!

No spoilers here - but definitely go see it!!

After the show. it was out into the rain for a three block walk to the Roseland Ballroom for "The Ultimate Disney Experience"!!

IMG_0800.jpg

We started off by checking our wet coats and dripping umbrellas ... and having a family photo taken against a green screen (which we could download for free later - kinda a mini-Photopass ...):

DISNEY-001.jpg

Then it was upstairs for "The Ultimate Disney Experience"!!! - which basically consisted of a chance to meet every single Disney Princess ...

IMG_0801.jpg

IMG_0815.jpg

The ballroom was decorated in a nice "bayou" look ... and each of the Princesses had their own "throne room" ...

Danielle wanted to started off with Tiana (of course ...) - but once it was her turn, she turned "gun shy" with the newest Princess, so I had to hold her for a picture:

IMG_0805.jpg

Unfortunately, the Princesses weren't signing stuff (so I had lugged that deluxe, hard-bound copy of "The Princess and the Frog" all the way to NYC for nuthin'!!) ... but that kept the waits to a minimum (15 minutes for Tiana, and about 5 minutes for the rest of the gals ...)

Next up was Jasmine!!

IMG_0806a.jpg

And then Danielle wanted to meet Pocohontas:

IMG_0808.jpg

At this point we took a break from the Princess and started walking around.

There were a few display cases with props from various Disney movies, including Giselle's wedding dress from "Enchanted".

And then Danielle spotted the "Bayou Adventure" play area, and meeting Princesses was off the itinerary ...

IMG_0810.jpg

Danielle made friends with another girl her age and they had a blast playing in the "bayou" ...

After about twenty minutes we dragged them away to do some arts-and-crafts - but it was basically just coloring some stuff and not worth the time. So we mosied upstairs where there were some more prop displays (including Hannah Montana's guitar ...), another "photopass" location, and a version of the "Animation Academy" from Hollywood Studios ...

We didn't have much time left so we headed back downstairs where the two girls met Ariel and waved to Mulan ...

And that was about it ... not exactly what I would call "The Ultimate Disney Experience" ... but it was a fun time and we got a little WDW magic 1500 miles north of sunny Orlando ...

Danielle said goodbye to her new friend and we headed outside - and it was snowing!!!

Danielle spent the entire walk to the World of Disney store trying to catch snowflakes on her tongue and "Loving it!!!" ...

Unfortunately - and amazingly - after a 15 minute walk we found the store - and there was line to get in!!! (Did I mention it was snowing and raining - and getting cold? And we were wet, hungry - and getting tired?)

So we passed on the World of Disney ... had a nice dinner at an Irish pub ... made our way back to Penn Station ... waited an hour for our train (spending some of the time roaming the K-Mart that opens onto the station ...) ... got our seats ... and Danielle promptly cuddled up to me and fell asleep ...

So - definitely go see "The Princess and the Frog"!!!

Do I need to repeat myself???!!??

And it was a blast getting some of that WDW magic way up here in NYC ...
