FairFX upto $1.80!!!

Just been onto FairFX and the rate is $1.80. Hopefully we will see a slight rise over the next few days.

I need to get a card (DH got his and put some on when the rate was good) but can't do it until Monday so hopefully it won't drop before then.

Having had a chat with DH, we decided to buy some more dollars last week at $1.73 as I thought the rate was heading downwards

Just worked it out, I would have saved £24 if I'd got todays rate of $1.80, so it's not a great big difference but enough to cheese me off, never mind DH paid for them anyway

I'll have to try and make some savings elsewhere to try and perk myself up

Can you call from a UK mobile to check? And is this expensive to do does anyone know?

I'm doing the same, although not out of choice. lol A bit here and there will add up to a decent amount of spending money. I've got some at over $2 to the pound, and some at $1.73 so it should hopefully all even out.

You can go the the website and check, or text 'Fair + bal + the last 4 digits on your card' (don't type the +'s lol) to 60040 and it'll send you your balance within seconds.

I top up this way too, my laptop is soooo slow!

To check a rate you type 'Fair + 40 (for eg) + USD' and it'll tell you how much it will cost you.

If you want to buy that amount, you reply 'Fair + buy + your cvv (last three digits on the card you're paying with)' and it'll topup.

I've just had a look at the Fairfx card and looks to be a very convenient method for travel money.

Has anyone used the card in the USA yet? I'm guessing you can top it up on an on-going basis, even when you are on holiday.

Also, do Disney accept it either at WDW or on the Cruise to settle a bill? Or do you tend to use it more for spending money.

Oh yes, another question. Normally with TC's you can cash them at the front desk at Disney resorts, how do you get your money out with the card - do you use an ATM and what is the cost, the website just says low charges at ATM's

I dont want to load money on to the card only to get to US and it not be there.

What happens if something happens to the company is the money already yours on the card?

Can you use this to pay at Disney guest services?

I used the card in every shop I went in, all the malls and all the disney/universal shops. Its mastercard so can be used everywhere you can pay with creditcards.

If a new card that you have ordered can take up to 10 days to arrive, and the rate goes up in the meantime, can you order another new card to take advantage of the good rate, or can you only top up once you have bought the first one, and therefore have to wait to receive the original card?

$1.81 now, up from $1.77 earlier today. Hopefully the announcement re the US markets should see a slight increase. I bought TC a few weeks ago from M&S at $1.80 but if I see the Fairfx rate go up again I am going to get some more especially as we are now going to Disney Aug next year.

I think you can order as many as you want but don't quote me on that.

Michelle, I've used the card in the UK and it's never left a shadow. It just takes the amount off your card. I checked my balance as soon as I'd paid, and within a minute or two, the money had gone out of my account.

I don't know if this is the same everywhere, but it's never left a shadow when I've used it.

Note to self: Stop blimmin using it, it's for your holiday!!!!! lol
