Fairfx at 1.64 today!!

thank you very much, never heard of this before

ordered one and got lots of dollars for our trip in 4 weeks

it was great for our trip last year and wont go without one now, top up when the rate is good

I ordered mine too today. Been meaning to do so for some time, seems like a better idea than carrying loads of cash (will still get some cash too though).
Got the good $1.6450 rate too :thumbsup2
Will be keeping an eye on it and top up whenever I can (read: have a bit of spare cash)

You should have no problems using it as its got the Mastercard logo on, accepted everywhere in Florida.
Just make sure you read the fees involved http://www.fairfx.com/opodo/termsandconditions
Many use the card with no problem, personally I don't like the fees involved, 80p/min customer service, £10 cash out fee etc, if you accept the fees the card can work well.

Just an alternative to those who like the Fairfx option and those who liked the nationwide debit cards when they were free.

Check out the Citibank dollar debit account.

It has the best of both cards as far as I can see.

The actual interbank rate which is 2c to 2.5c above FairFx typically.
No foreign transaction fee.
No cash withdrawal fee, (even ATM charges) if you use the Citibank Machines at Publix or 7Eleven.
£500 per day in $ from an ATM.
Free internet and telebanking so you can transfer easily in both directions, check balance etc.
Protection of the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)

The only slight downside is that instant transfer isn't quite there yet, coming soon, but you can wait for 2 days before it goes into the Citibank account so the rate isn't quite fixed.

Obviously locking in your $ at a rate can work for and against you, which it is similar to the Fairfx but with more going for it imo.

That is true although you can get around that by emailing instead of ringing (and they have always been very quick replying to me) and not cash out, just draw your cash out if you no longer want the card, no fee.
