Are there any restrictions on:

Which day(s) you can check in?
Any minimums on how many nights you can stay?
Any exchange fees between FF resorts?

thanks

We have a Fairfield timeshare, so I may be able to help. THere are at least 3 different Fairfield ownership plans. If you have a fixed week plan, you must check in on the specified night and use the week as it was purchased. If you have one of the point system plans, you can check in on any night. There is not a minimum stay, but you must have enough housekeeping points to go along with your occupancy points. If you stay only a couple of days, you could run out of houskeeping points before the end of your year. In that case, you can pay a small housekeeping fee.

Fairfield can be a pain. Again, depending on your plan, there is a limit to the number of reservations you can make in a year (even if your travel is in different use years!!!). Exceed this and you pay $25 per ressie. I have been told that I couldn't reserve a larger unit even though I had the points to do it. On arrival at the resort, I again asked if the larger unit had become available. I was advised that they had some open but that "they have to be saved for VIP members in case one shows up at the last minute." OK, I have been trying for 9 months to get the unit I have the points for...and as I stand here at your desk on check in day you tell me that you need to save it just in case someone else drives up and wants it???? What is the chance that someone will show up????

There is no exchange fee if you stay within the Fairfield system.

Thanks - I think we are looking at being points owners with specific focus on Orlando properties (might exchange out to Hawaii on a very rare basis or other properties but majority of occupancy would be in Orlando)

Fixed weeks generally do not work as due to DW's teaching schedule sometimes the weeks do not line up from year to year

Jaysue, you may check-in on any day of the week during most of the year. During "prime" season, you may only book 3-, 4- or 7-night stays and they must check-in OR check-out on a typical check-in day (depending on resort, this could be Fri/Sat/Sun). I think this only leaves Mondays or possibly Tuesdays as unacceptable at a handful of resorts. This prime time restriction doesn't even apply at ALL their resorts, especially the newer ones.

The minimum is 2 nights - unless they happen to have a single night available in the system, when you wanted to travel.

There is no exchange fee between FF resorts. You may make up to 1 "free" reservation per 77,000 points owned. After that, it's $25. After your housekeeping credits (you'd have 1 per 1,000 points owned) are used up in a year, you may have to purchase more. This only happens to people who have many short stays in a year. Ex., if you stayed twice - 5 nights plus 2 nights prime time when you have points for 7 nights - there'd be NO housekeeping charges. If you stayed for 3 shorter stays, there might be a reservation fee and a housekeeping credits fee for that 3rd stay - or maybe not. You'd have to look at the charts. HTH!
