Failed ideal....that as the US population grew, more farms would need to be created to feed the population
Oregon has pretty much left the agriculture industry of processing healthy fruit and veggies. I remember 70s rhetoric that all of western Oregon would be high yield vegetable agriculture to feed the world. The last major processing plant, if not the last has closed and no more veggies or fruit. Instead the fields are full of seed for your lawns and horses, filberts for you coffee drinks and blueberries for your muffins. and oil from flower seeds.
