Fact or Fiction: Resorts and DVC being sold off

Since us dvc members own a little part dont we need to vote to have marriot buy the resorts?

I think you'll find that you've assigned your voting rights over to management, or something like that...

We were there in June and I was talking to one of the engineering managers (my degree was engineering and I had inquired about an interview).

He casually mentioned three big things that were to occur, but I didn't think anything about them until this weekend.

He said:
1) The skyway terminal in tomorrowland was coming down.
2) There was to be an expansion in Fantasyland
(Hence they needed engineers)
and
3) Disney was outsourcing/selling the DVC properties.

Of course, I thought he was bragging or feeding me a line at the time, but now....:confused3

Wow, he must have gotten the info from a bus driver....because you know how things work at Disney when new projects come along, the first to know are the top Disney management, and Imagineers, the next is Bus Drivers.........right?

:lmao:

I, too, have stayed at the Portofino Bay and the Hard Rock at Universal. Both stays were expensive and both stays were nightmares. At Hard Rock they had given away our room and "upgraded" us to concierge for a night and then we had to move, again. We had five in a room (with sofa) but the room they "upgraded" us to was a rollaway. I will never stay concierge level again at the Hard Rock. It was awful. That being said, the problem with both hotels were the people working there. Unfriendly, rude and uncaring. Our rooms, while very nice when originally built, were poorly maintained. We had connecting rooms at the Portofino, and the difference from one to the other was significant. Absolutely no continuity and spotty maintenance.

We stayed at these hotels specifically for the front of the line privileges and only do it about every three years. I am constantly amazed at the difference in attitude, CLEANLINESS and presence of staff to accommodate our needs. My 27 year old licensed pharmacist daughter was actually in tears from words spoken to her by a CM on a children's ride. She was exiting the ride when she realized she forgot her sunglasses in the netting on the car. She told the CM her glasses were right there and could she please get them for her. The CM told her to move along or she would call security. My daughter pointed out that the car was only one person ahead and could someone please hand her her sunglasses. She told her she would have to wait four hours and check with lost and found. The glasses were within REACH of another CM but they said no. These were prescription glasses, expensive and never seen again.

That was four years ago and while we travel to Disney at least twice a year (last year it was four times), our desire to stay at a Universal property is very low. The kids will want to see the Harry Potter world when it it opens, so I suppose we will try it one more time. They kids really love the Marvel section of the park, and while I assume the rides will remain the same with new themes of some kind, the aquisition of Marvel comics by Disney was a coup in our opinion. If Disney can use the Marvel products to equal or surpass what Universal did with them, we will never feel a need to return Universal again.

We are DVC members and I shutter at the idea of Disney not running the hotels. If I wanted Marriott, I would have bought Marriottt. We would re-evalute and probably sell our shares.

I agree - If I wanted a different timeshare I would have brought that.

I stayed at Universal's Royal Pacific and had the worst time ever. I had booked adjoining connected rooms because I was the only adult traveling with 6 young kids. While we had adjoining rooms they didn't connect to each other - when I tried to get the situation remedied I was told too bad. The vacation just got worse from there. The rudest and most unprofessional hotel staff I have ever had to deal with. I like the thrill rides at Universal but will never stay at their hotels again.

Remember Digital? If you don't, it's because its now twice removed from existence. They sold off profitable divisions (storage to Quantum, Alpha to Intel), leaving them with nothing to give them income. They ended up getting acquired by Compaq, who then got acquired by HP.

12 years with DEC here. :sad1:

I certainly wouldn't mind if someone else like Marriott bought out DVC as long as there was a bit of firewall between Disney properties and all the Marriott properties out there. We bought DVC because of all the choices on site and flexibility (like not having to stay a full week) not because Disney runs the facilities so well.

Sounds to me like Disney is evaluating options only. Like the option of having Marriott run the managment of their DVC resorts. This would be a viable option and DVC would still be called DVC, just the management of the HOA/COA would be by Marriott. I don't think they would be put into the Marriott family. Marriott is well known for the management of their hotels and timeshares (with a couple of exceptions).

I don't think that Disney would seriously consider selling unless it was one heck of a deal in their favor.

I talked to my DVC rep earlier today about this rumor. He said it's absolutely FALSE. In fact, he said that Marriott is doing very poorly at this time, and simply is not in a position to buy DVC (adding that it was never for sale in the first place). I told him that was good news, because if DVC was ever sold off to another company, we'd put our points up for sale.

I heard that when the big shake-up at Transportation happened this week that the head of Disney PR was lobbying for the job. Turns out he had an idea to use all transportation drivers and skippers as a sounding board for all Disney related news. Press Releases are a thing of the past. Want the hard-hitting news? Get on the bus.

Just talking to my new neighbor and told them we are going to Disney here in December. I guess they go every year too:cool1: But we were talking about bus drivers and rumors. 4 years ago a bus driver told my neighbor that they were going to shut down then MGM studios for a year and totally re-do it and double the size, with monorail access. He then asked another bus driver he confirmed that rumor. sorry kind of off the subject of the DVC thing but just to show you how reliable the bus drivers are.

Looking at disneys position in expanding DVC next to their attractions I cant see them selling off those positions.

However.

Vero Beach, (the one up north on the east coast) , possible one in Hawii could end up as completly outsourced properties.

Since disney doesnt mind paying a few billion for a comic books, maybe they will just buy marriots time share units and make DVC interchangeable with Marriot =) :confused3
