I dont do much on facebook--I use just to read what my friend a real friend not a FB friend has to say

and a performer I like--he goes on FB to do chats with fans--sometimes he has his phone on when hes doing shows so we can hear the show--

but yesterday I woke up to a ton of friend requests from people all over the world--some written in different languages some of the pics I wouldnt want to know these people anyways

then people I do personally know texted me to say they got this message from me--some of the ads were for a weight loss pill which I have no interest in either--

throughout last night I got all sort of friend requests again--I did change my password but

now how do I get these to stop--even my Dh got a friend request from me and also one of his personal friends

not sure how or why this happened--its annoying
so my question is how can I get these to stop

thanks

I don’t use Facebook, but you might need to chat with FB themselves. I’m sure there’s some link somewhere to report issues.

The majority of the time you weren't hacked, you willingly gave a bad guy your credentials.

The three most likely things that happened are:

1. Someone just duplicated your account. Are the messages your friends are getting from your actual account or just a similar one? Anyone can grab your profile picture, change the account name slightly while keeping your display name correct, and start a ending spam.

2. You clicked on a malicious link and, most likely, gave someone your credentials. It usually happens like this: You click a link and it looks like you were logged out of Facebook. It is the actual Facebook login, at least it looks like it if you don't know where to look, you enter your username and password, and the bad guy first captures that and then passes it through to Facebook to actually log you in.

3. You reuse your password. If you were part of a compromise, let's say the Yahoo compromise, and you used the same password there someone might just be running down a lo6st of known credential sets and hit on you. This is why you should never reuse any passwords.

None of these are really hacking. Unless you are famous or rich no one is dedicating the resources to actually hack your social media.

Enable multi-factor authentication everywhere that allows it, use unique random passwords everywhere, these are passwords you could never actually remember, use a reputable password manager to manage those passwords, and don't click links unless you know where they go.
