Got someone wanting to invite me and ummm...no thanks!!!!

If I "ignore", do they get an actual message?

they don't get a message, but if they go to your profile again it will say "add as friend" again so they will know you ignored the first request. Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! We've all been there. ;)

Actually, if you go to their status it will say "awaiting confirmation." That is, if the person requesting the friend goes to the profile of the person from whom they requested the friendship.

There's this person, she has sent me a friend request three times. I don't know this person at all! She works with my daughter and she doesn't commuicate with her that much. I kept ingoring her for the past three times so on the fourth request I just comfirmed as a friend. Now, if I wait about week I thought I would "hide" her. Will she be able to see that?

I don't think so. But if they expect you to fawn over their life--they'll notice you aren't doing it--they just won't know why.

The person in question for me is my step-mom and I take great strides to not umm....keep her in my life more than I have to. So while I don't care if I saw her stuff--I certainly do not want her to see my stuff. (No offense to other steps. I have friends who are. My step-mom is just one who gives the title a bad bad name.)

...but only if that person (the one receiving the friend request) hasn't hit the "ignore" button. Once you hit the ignore button, it will no longer say "awaiting confirmation" when the person sending the friend request tries to check your profile. When the person sending the friend requests sees that it no longer says "awaiting confirmation" they will know that you ignored their friend request.

OK, if I "hide" the friend can they tell that I have done that?

No they can't. Just know that hiding the person only hides their updates from showing up on your home page, it doesn't hide your updates from showing up on their page & it doesn't block them from being able to post to your wall.

Ok that sounds great!

I really think some are just making friends to have a high number of friends. I don't care to know people's personal life that I have no clue who they are!

One thing you can do if ignoring her request will cause even more problems is go to your privacy setting and limit what she can see.

For example, I have one coworker that I can't 'unfriend' because he would know it but I don't want him seeing my status updates anymore, long story. I went into my privacy settings and marked where he can no longer see what I write about. I have some others that I block from seeing my photos.

I just didn't respond (it arrived via my email) because I'm not interested in Facebook at all.. Guess it was a smart move on my part because I'm no longer friends with the person who issued the "invite"..;)

I just wish there were a way to permananently ban them from even asking! :lmao: A friend of my brother in law's from their single days, that came to church with him occasionally asked me twice before to be friends. Well, I 'ignored' him the first time, he asked again! Okay, so I left it up there and just acted like it wasn't there for a few months. It finally went away, so I figured he finally withdrew the request. Well doggone it, he asked me again just the other day! Talk about persistent!
(he did drugs with my brother-in-law way back when, and I figure I have no need for that 'friend' in my life!) lol

You can block that person from even seeing you to send a request. Just click on his name, then scroll down and look on the left hand side of the screen. It should give you the option to report/block. Click that and you can block him.

I did this just last week with someone who went to school with my much older brother. I don't remember ever meeting this guy, yet he has friend requested me at least 5 times in the last year. Since he's not taking the hint by my ignorning his requests, I blocked him. Now he can't even see that I'm on FB, even if I post to a mutual friend's wall - I love the block feature :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'll go try that! :thumbsup2

Is anyone else getting tons of friend requests from people you don't know? I created an account ages ago, but I never use it. Now, all of a sudden I'm getting friend requests and I don't know any of these people. It would be my guess that they think I'm someone else, but it's just weird that I've had the account for years, received one friend request shortly after I created the account (someone from highschool I barely knew), another a few weeks ago from a parent of one DD's friends, and now just within the last three days all these friend requests have been pouring in from complete strangers. It's baffling. :confused3

Some of them are people who set up accounts to try to lure you to buy services or the products they may be selling. DH has been getting requests from young girls who look less than wholesome in their profile pictures. I went to one girl's profile page, which was completely public, and the things I read were not not even close to being appropriate enough to repeat on the DIS. She mentioned having a separate website that men could pay to view. ;) I'm assuming that some of these people do a search based on demographics (gender, location, etc) and then try to friend people based on those demographics. They're probably the same people who post about great sites or products in the comments section of news stories on cnn.com, usatoday.com, yahoonews.com, etc.
