Facebook Drama

There was an "acquaintance" that I had on my facebook that posted so much personal stuff. This past week she must have had a big blowup with her husband, sounded like he may have cheated, she kept posting one thing after another about trust. I just couldn't believe she was posting this stuff for the world. Then she posted that everyone is her "friend" and they better not use this for their next gossip session. I just deleted her, I didn't want to see it.

I don't even know who any of my friends are friends with or not friends with. Not my business.

I have NEVER been involved in any drama on facebook nor has anyone I've been with spent time updating their status when they could have spending time with me.

Fine, we get that you don't use (or like Facebook), but Facebook is not "just drama". I'd state that it isn't even mostly drama - those with "Facebook drama" have "real life drama", "email drama", "phone drama", etc. In other words, it is the people that cause/like drama, not the medium that is to blame.

Exactly.

AND, I find that most people that use the word "drama", love drama.

I don't even know who any of my friends are friends with or not friends with. Not my business.

Mostly I don't either. However, there are a few people who are mutual friends - when I know them from very different places (like a grade school friend who is friends with someone I do triathlons with). I find that very fun.

I only had one semi dramatic to thing happen on facebook and it was a few years ago. I was friends with 2 people I worked with and were friends with in real life, but they werent friends with each other on fb. They both had drama with each other in real life too.

So one day I posted a boring status that I was watching a movie. One of them commented on topic. Then the other started posting on my status about the other one and they went back and forth and someone else joined in. I just deleted thier comments and the next day at work I told the one that had started it not to post that stuff in my wall keep it on your own page.

I never had any problem with them or anyone else after that

Be careful that you don't pull a muscle, trying to pat yourself on the back.

My daughter asked me to email her a video I'd recorded. She lives 10 hours away. I tried emailing it. Kept getting "email not sent" errors, due to the size. We tried using gmail accounts, hotmail accounts. Called tech support. Nothing worked.

I finally tried to post it on Facebook, used custom settings so only she and her husband could see it. Done!

Fine, you use facebook and put it up there - there are a dozen other platforms you could have posted it on and set it so only they could see too.

If you want to use it, use it, no one is saying not to. Just saying that 'I have friends and family who live far away, therefore I must use fb' is silly, as there's nothing it does that wasn't endlessly redundant already and is only getting more so.

only on the dis

Exactly. Only here would I get a lecture and be given permission from a stranger on how to communicate with my daughter.

I have FB friends who live far away. I have FB friends I see every week. My boyfriend is a FB friend, and we live together. I use FB because I like FB. And I don't have FB issues because I'm not friends (online or in person) with drama queens.

Again -- FB doesn't turn people into jerks... It seems like a new thread pops up every few days where people find it necessary to "brag" that they don't have a FB profile, and say that FB is evil, etc. If you don't like FB, fine -- no one's telling you that you have to. But about 900 million people disagree with you, and don't want to be sneered at for it.

Sorry for the hijack, OP :goodvibes

Where did I say that I "have friends and family who live far away, therefore I must" use Facebook? Don't put words in my mouth. I choose to use it. I certainly don't feel that I MUST use it, and did NOT say that.

What "other platforms" can I post on and have my pictures, videos, etc. be available to any and all of my friends and family both here in the US and in Europe, to view only if they wish? I don't want to email each and every one of them the video. How can I post it to all of them at once, without worrying that my friends in Scotland, for example, may not want to see a video of my granddaughter, and don't want to open attachments in their email?

I would really like to know. :confused3

This thread about disliking drama seems to have created a lot of drama. :upsidedow

I was wondering when someone would point that out!! :thumbsup2

I also am amused that the original poster, who doesn't like drama, is so far doing what she was advised, I guess, and avoiding THIS drama!! (or maybe she's just busy reading Facebook!)

By the way, does ANYONE know of another way I can put up, for example, pictures I took at Christmas time, and let any or all of my friends see them, if they wish? I would love to know. I don't want to be spamming the inboxes of everyone I know, by emailing them to everyone I know. And the time spent on that!! And not everyone wants to see my pictures, I know.

I can't wait to find out what these other platforms are.

Back to the drama. popcorn::

I find this totally fascinating. I'm exactly the right age to be a really early adopter of facebook--back in the end of 2005--and I've quite literally never had a single facebook moment of drama. I do have a couple acquaintances from high school who like to stir up nonsense with passive-aggressive posts ('Some people don't know when to shut up'), but I mostly just watch them with entralled schadenfreude. Honestly, I don't know any of my actual friends who have facebook fights. It's so weird and totally fascinating.

My family uses Picasa and then shares the albums (the email is just a link to the albums).

Picasa: 1 free gb of storage, or $5 for 20 gb per year.
Facebook: free.

I'd need more than 20 gb of storage. I also backup photos on an external drive, of course.

What is the big deal about using Facebook? Why can't you just accept that people use it? There are other options, yes, but not as good for me. Why can't I just use what I use, and you not lecture me about other options?

Does the founder-forget his name-kill baby seals in his spare time, so that you have to protest it? You don't use it. I get it. I do. Get over it.

I also use Pinterest. Is that okay with you?

WHOA!! HOLD ON A SECOND!! You might want to check who you are replying to before you start attacking.

I've been defending the use of FB throughout this thread. You asked a question (I didn't realise that you were being facetious) and I provided an answer. I've never had a problem with limits on Picasa, but I don't leave albums up forever, so I didn't realize that there was a limit (or that it might be a problem).

Really, I couldn't care less what you use - though I do hope you are more careful about what you post to people on the other sites you use.
