Face Characters

Our Cinderella at Park Fare was our Aurora 2 days later at Norway. DD did not notice, but when we were there all seemed quite good, but some of the posted pictures are a little iffy.

Oh well as long as DW and DD think they are real Princesses I am fine. :cool1:

I want to see pictures of what everybody here thinks Cinderella and etc.. should look like. I think those would be Fabulous! Maybe Disney should start hiring Screen Actors Guild actors to play the roles of face characters. That way they would be beautiful, be able to act and the pay would be higher so competition would thrive. I doubt Disney would do that though.

Also does anybody remeber some of the old 'fur' characters..some were not so hot as well. We have a pooh from 20 or so years ago and nose and eyes are just all wrong.

That looks like the Jasmine we saw in AdventureLand during our April 2004 trip. She was very nasty! :sad2: I got the feeling we were bothering her by being there My niece was livid. :furious: She was 5 years old then. Whenever she looks in her autograph book or talks about the trip, she always mentions how Jasmine messed up her book. :guilty:

That's so sad! When we went last May she was AWESOME! We loved her! And in person she doesn't look *too old* at all....they do put a TON of make-up on her though....I still thought she looked good for the part.

Most I seen do a great job. Though once I did see an Aurora who could have used a touch of orthodontia (her front teeth were noticably longer than the rest of her upper teeth) but I have braces so I notice teeth everywhere! :teeth:

And once at Princess Storybook, we met Belle who was easily pushing six feet tall and clearly quite muscular! I always imagined Belle as a smaller woman! But the kids didn't care - they greeted her with no hesitation! :)
Wow you think they would cast a better Belle. We saw B & B on broadway and the Belle was perfect (Brooke Tangsley I think) obviously Disney doesn't pay as much. Most of the princesses are quite pretty IMO. I have seen a few cinderella's that looked old to me. One of the Jasmine we saw PSB looked a little masculine. I agree Snow White and Mary poppins are almost perfect as the real ones. I have never seen Princesses with crooked teeth, trust me DD would notice because she loves princesses. When we saw Disney on ice, Aerail was not pretty at all IMO.

When we were there in 04 I thought the Jasmine looked great and so did the Belle at the storytime. The snow white we saw in the parade however looked pretty pudgy to me and very pale. I know she is snow white but she looked like a ghost. I don't have a scanner or I would post pics. I'm a heavy person so I don't have anything against them they are beautiful too but just not what I expected of a princess. I didn't say anything to anyone else since commenting on someones weight is not really polite but when we showed dh's uncle the pics he said "gee snow white could use weight watchers". He's always blunt and usually rude so he always says what he thinks.

I think you win some and lose some. We had our picture taken with Aladdin and in person I didn't really think he had a close resemblance, but he looked just like Aladdin when the picture came out! Weird! I also had the most awesome Snow White at the Princess Breakfast, but the Cinderella at 1900 Park Fare was just, well, I hate to say it, but ugly. I know that sounds so bad, but when you expect Cinderella, you expect this amazing beauty. It was just kind of disappointing. Oh well. Luck of the draw I guess.

This is the first Cinderella I've seen that looks ok. She doesn't look perfect for the part, but definitely acceptable. Every other Cinderella I've seen has been ugly.

I thought our Belle at CRT was a perfect resemblence and Pocahontas was very close too IMO. They were both also so kind and very patient with my kids, just like you'd expect from the characters.

To 'blurred' for me to tell. BUT I'll bet shes very good. I bet its hard for face characters at the parks. It cannot be an easy job.

Ok, first and foremost, my son loved all the characters he met, and like I posted before. . . . it really didn't matter too terribly much to me what they looked like it was how they treated my son, how into their character they were, and I completely admire them for their desire to work in a hard position for what is certainly not enough pay. And I certainly do NOT believe that a face character should be drop dead model gorgeous, I'm just a little nit picky and thought a couple of the characters I saw might have been better casted as someone else, we grow up watching the cartoons and thus have it ingrained our minds what that character would look like in person.

that said, here are the pics of the Snow white and Cindy I mentioned before that I wasn't terribly impressed with (in looks alone, NOT with their character)

But look what that wonderful Snow White gave my son. . .

I also thought the choice of Peter in the parade was a bit off. . .

But you know, upon reflection . . . .
the Alladin we met in Adventureland left us with a wonderful impression, I swear he looked and acted JUST like him, and his VOICE was perfect. . . . but looking at the pic I took, I guess he didn't look as much like Alladin as I thought, further proof that CHARACTER is everything!

Oh, and our storyteller Belle was just the most perfect in my eyes, but maybe I'm partial cause she picked both my husband and son to take part. . .

And you know the Mickey at Ohana's was the best I've seen. . .

ok, ok, JK! :lmao: I just had to inject a bit of humor into a touchy subject. lol

The Snow White in the picture below is the best one I've seen so far. I think she's pretty enough to be Cinderella!

I can see both sides of this. It is hard to find people in Orlando to play these parts... but I think for every bad one, there is a good one!

My only problem, during spectro, cinderella looked like a guy, in fact, I swear it was a guy! I wish I took a pic

I saw an Alice in SpectroMagic last time that was just spot on in her looks and her mannerisms.

"Backstage at Magic Kingdom, Part II"

Phil is taking a short break with his feet up on his desk, when Becky breathless bursts in. He knows trouble when he sees it.
"Christ, Becky, what is it this time?"
"It's Raoul!!" she gasps. "He got ahold of a Cinderella costume!"
Phil leaps to his feet. "I thought I told you to keep an eye on him! Where is he?!"
"He didn't get it from me! He's heading for the parade route! Maybe we can still catch him!"
Alas, they arrive just in time to watch the Cindy float go through the gates. Raoul leans back and blows them a kiss.
"I'll bust him for this", Phil fumes. "I'll bust him back to restroom attendant, third class!".
"We may as well go wait for him at the other end", Becky sighs. "In the meanwhile, let's pray he stays in character!"

I am so dissappointed by the people on this board. Do you honestly think that you wouldn't be hurting anyone by posting a picture and writing 'ugly cinderella' or 'unattractive snow white'? I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion of what a character is supposed to look like but when you are so downright rude and heartless to post such things where anyone can see it then you are simply a mean person who has no regard for people's feelings.
The performers at Disney work very hard along with all the other cast members and put in long hours and try their hardest to create magic. If you have anything to say about a character performer, please use your best judgement in how you say it and please don't post pictures. I can't believe that I would see a thread such as this on a family board. I used to love reading everyone's advice and tips and now I think that those of you who would write some of these posts on this thread are awful and enjoy hurting others. I am sure you would not like it if someone put a picture up of you and everyone said you were 'fugly' or 'looked like a man'. Please try to be a bit more considereate and a lot less tacky.

Anyone seen Tinker Bill?

Some people feel uncomfortable playing the role of a character who is "racially similar" because of stereotyping. So instead we might end up with a heavily made up black Snow White or a heavily made up Asian Hercules. Or someone with gobs of fat hidden by a billowing skirt. Actually not since Disney has second to final say. (The CM has final say in not accepting the promotion to face character, or resigning). There was at least one instance reported here of someone remaining a costumed character rather than shave his chest to play Peter Pan.

What counts is character. Anyone exhibiting a nasty disposition should be immediately removed from the scene.

I can only speak for myself, but my comments were not meant to offend anyone, especially those wonderful people that were playing the characters.

I was only saying that they did not look like Cinderella or Snow White or whomever TO ME. I am an adult, I have opinions. And in the great scheme of things my opinion of whether they look like the character they are portraying doesn't amount to much at all. What does matter, and all that should matter, is what the children visiting the park think and how those characters treat the children they see. And if I saw those characters again, I would thank them again, because of the joy they brought my son and the smile they put on his face.

My comments on their looks was more like (and should be taken as) constructive criticism. If it came accross as something else, I'm sorry. But then again I don't recall using demeaning or belittling words in my post so maybe it was not directed at me at all. I hope it wasn't, because like I posted before I have nothing but respect for those BRAVE, KIND, people that work in these jobs without the financial compensation it truly deserves.
