To keep our clothes smelling fresh, I pack a fabric softener sheet in each of our sutcases to keep the clothes smelling fresh.

With the new regulations at airports and luggage x-rays - will a fabric softener sheet send a red light to the airlines and have ll my bags opened up to check what is inside ?

I know not to pack any liquids - but what about packing toothpaste ?

Thanks !

No problem with fabric softener sheets in either checked luggage or carryon luggage.

Toothpaste no problem in checked luggage. (As a matter of fact any liquid of any size can be packed in checked luggage) (except for flammable liquid such as lighter fluid or propane canisters)

For carryon luggage, toothpaste and other liquid toiletries can be carried on in containers 3 oz or less in a 1 quart zip loc bag. This must be taken out of your carryon and placed in a bin separately.

I'm confused after reading TSA site..... could I pack in checked a can of lysol?
I know,sounds dumb,but I'm confused:confused3

I think you can't because it's an aeresol, and aeresols can explode - but I'm not sure.

what about sudafed? I'm taking some childrens sudafed along to help with the pressure in their ears. The bottle is 4oz., so I bought a 3oz. bottle to pour it into. How do I need to label that? Will that go through OK?

You don't need to put it into a small bottle. Medical stuff gets an exemption. Don't put the bottle in your baggie and just show it to the TSA person.

No problem. I have heard of people taking Lysol wipes (I've never actually seen them, but presumably are fairly easy to find). Those could go in either carry-on or checked luggage.

Well someone said you can take hairspray, so why not aerosol lysol? Because it's not a personal care product is all I can think?

According to the handy-dandy TSA website (I know, why look something up for yourself when you can get a DISer to do it for you), "personal care or toiletries in limited quantities" are the only exception from the no aerosols rule. They don't state whether that has to be in checked or carry-on, but anecdotal evidence suggests that 3.4oz (or less) hair spray is fine going in carry on.

I packed a travel sized Lysol (found at the check-out aisle at Walmart). I packed that with my tolietries and there was no problem. I also packed Chlorox wipes also found at the check-out aisle.

We cruised on DCL and found the Lysol can to be a lifesaver...the bathroom had a funky smell to it...

Not all hairspray is aerosol. However, TSA does say this under prohibited flammable items:

Aerosol (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities)

So small aerosol hairsprays would be okay.

My wife always packs a can of Lysol spray wherever we go. I'll have to let her know that it's not allowed. I'm not sure that will change her mind though;)

Thank you to all who have responded.

You could also send in a box some 'cleaning' supplies to your resort.

What we do - we take the car service with the 30 minute food store stop.

We buy water bottles, some snacks and breakfast items and now will also buy some lysol and clorox wipes. Thanks for the idea :thumbsup2
