I don't find it hard to wash your hands at WDW. The only place that it is an issue is at DS when you want to eat at Blaze Pizza or the Dluxe Burger. They don't have a restroom in them. But I order my food and then go out and wash my hands. I use the paper towel to hold the pager for my food and the door handle, then do not touch things when back inside. Same with other restaurants, order your food, then go and wash your hands before you eat. If we plan on snacking on popcorn, go to the nearest restroom and wash up first. Too many people touch all kinds of surfaces and then do not wash up before they use their hands to eat.
This is exactly what I do, but it's much harder when eating at a buffet.

Most of the time when I go to Disney I come home with a cold or the flu. I think I've gotten off easy this time--I've only been back a day and I think I'm more over the cold I picked up than not. It's something I try to prevent but have semi-accepted. The one time I didn't get sick was on a trip to Disneyland with my housemate, who is much more insistent than me about actually, you know, sleeping throughout the trip.

And I think that's a big factor. I rested more on this trip than on previous ones and gave myself some late mornings to deliberately sleep in, and I think that's a big part of why I didn't get hit quite so hard. I still didn't give myself as much rest as I really could have used, though, and I suspect I would have done better still if I'd slowed down further. And of course hand-washing is a big thing. I was a lot better about using hand sanitizer on this trip, which I think helps at least a little, and I tried to be conscientious about at least using hand sanitizer before eating, preferably washing hands, and I tried not to touch things I didn't need to touch (in one queue I watched a little girl touch literally every surface she walked past, to her parents' constant chagrin). It's hard, though, to go wash hands every time I want to buy a snack at a festival stand in Epcot, and I'm just not in the habit of washing hands that often and being quite that careful about keeping my hands away from my face.
