It appears that as of Friday, EZ Pass compatible transponders will be good on SunPass toll roads. Which I believe, I'm sure one of the locals will help me, means that EZ Pass will work everywhere in the Orlando area? I'll be very happy to bring my IPass down and not have to stop at the toll booths anymore.

I don't know the answer, but assuming it is true that would make EZ pass usable not only for Orlando roads, but all of the Turnpike, many express lanes in various cities, ALL tolls in Miami-Dade County, and even a lot of parking garages at airports.

Well Hallelujah! Only about 5 years after they promised.

Yes, all toll roads in the area are administered by either E-PASS or SunPass, so they should accept E-ZPass. It's unclear whether E-ZPass will be accepted for airport parking.

Here's the official press release:

At MIA, SunPass is accepted for all parking garages, but that's only one airport. I have no idea how other airports do it.

But it's limited to SunPass users who have set up auto-replenishment. That's why I don't know whether it includes E-ZPass users.

Probably not, there are some interoperability things within within EZPass that are limited based on where your transponder is from. Some states add a surcharge if you have an out of state transponder, New York being the most egregious. IIRC correctly Indiana adds a couple cents on on the Toll Road.

I find the MN soon to be accepting EZPass interesting, the only tolls on MN roads are HOV lanes that you don't have to pay for if you have multiple people in the vehicle. I'm not aware of any EZPass transponders that have shielding cases like the MNPass one does that lets you turn it off if you have multiple people in the vehicle. I bet there are going to be a lot of people that end up with charges they shouldn't when this goes live.

EZPAss are attached to the windshield with velcro. The passes come with RFID shielded bags you can use if you don't want the pass scanned.

So we just recently received our new SunPass, and have EzPass, which has a pouch to protect it from being scanned when inside the pouch. My husband plans on making two trips by car from NY to FL, in Oct. and Feb. Seems as though he’ll need to bring both, identify the states where each is accepted, keep track so he’s not inadvertently charged twice, and switch them back and forth.

Oh gosh. If he would like to share this tedious information, I would greatly appreciate it! 😂

I think you could get a UNI and call it done - return the other two for credit. We had EZpass for OH and went to a UNI. works at home, NY, PA, FL etc.

The only state that currently accepts SunPass but not E-ZPass is Georgia, and Georgia apparently does not have any toll roads, just tolled express lanes on non-tolled expressways. So he could either switch to SunPass in Georgia, or just stay in the general use lanes while in GA. After entering FL, he could use either SunPass or E-ZPass, whichever is more convenient.

The E-ZPass website says Georgia is expected to begin accepting E-ZPass by the end of this year, but they said the same about FL years ago, and it took until now to actually happen. So maybe GA will be on board by the end of year, or maybe they won't.

I might call SunPass and see if you can get your $20 back since you haven't used it and don't need it after the announcement, but I think the chances are low.

:thanks:

OK- got it. We literally just replaced a lost Sunpass and the person mentioned this was happening, but made it seem as though the Sunpass work in the way that the UNI does. I would have just purchased the Uni last month... We travel from New York to Virginia and NC often, Florida usually just rental cars several times per year. I guess we’ll sort it out. Thanks for the info on UNI.

NY offers significant toll discounts if you pay using a NY issued EZPass.

So wait to be clear, I as an Illinois toll user (ez pass) I can take my transponder with me, correct?

IPasses have worked on some roads in the Orlando area for a while now, but as of last Friday, they work everywhere in FL.

Yeah I knew it was one or two of the tollroads but not all. Funny enough when i googled it, an old DISboards post came up but not this one. Thanks!
